question about my thermostat! please advice!
Got my intake cleaned out and have my ofhg all put back nice and snug now i want to tackle the thermostat because of code p0128. I took my intercooler out and i need to know do i need to take the waterpump off to replace the thermostat. The previous owner changed the waterpump already so i dont want to mess with it. Please tell me if any of you have changed the thermostat without removing waterpump. Thanks!

You have to remove the waterpump in order to take the thermostat out. And I'm pretty sure the FMIC doesn't need to come out.

Don't believe that's correct -- the thermostat can be removed without removing the water pump but since most of the hoses go to the thermostat and not the water pump it may actually be easier from an access perspective just to remove both as a single unit. There are a ton of DIY's and videos on how to do it. The DIY on Pelican Parts is good if you just want to remove the thermostat and leave the water pump in place.

I did both at the same time so I can't say for sure how much harder it is, but the water pump only has two hoses and one of them is the "U" shaped hose that goes to the thermostat. Most people recommend replacing that hose at the same time and if you're going that far, you might as well just remove the water pump too. Up to you though.

note that there's two versions of the bolt, depending whether or not your pump has the vibration reduction built into it or not

You can do it without removing the water pump.. But you'll have to remove the FMIC and use the space to pull the thermostat from there .. I did it a couple of months ago.. Mine cracked in half after i rplaced it and the water pump a year ago lol.

So coming in from the front, i.e. removing the fmic and going in through there, you don't need to remove the pump. Coming in from the bottom, i.e. not removing the fmic, you probably need to remove the pump.
