front wheel bearings... cost?

evening all... I think my front wheel bearing(s) are ready to be replaced. I can hear a rumbling, almost grinding but only on certain roads and almost always in the multi story car park at work. Is it normal to only hear it on certain roads? I've only noticed it since I put on new wheels, I bought them from another member who got them from CM wheels, could the wider wheel be putting more pressure on the hub and accelerate the problem?

should they be replaced in pairs? and how much should it cost roughly per corner?

fyi my car is an e92 330d on 100k miles

Bearings usually make a sort of howling or "wahwahwahwah" type noise.

They have to be howling for ages before they start rumbling/grinding.

could it simply be tyre noise from the new/different tyres?

It will be the tyres causing the noise not wheel bearings.

Thanks for the replies -it could well be the tyres... Shame I don't have any spare wheels now to test. Is there anyway I can test the wheel bearings?

It's more likely to be the tyres, especially if they're run flats. I had the same issue until I changed my front tyres for non run flats.

Simplest way is probably just to get someone that knows what a noisey bearing sounds like to have a run out in the car and listen!
