How to get a replacement key for cheap?

The dealership quoted me $530 for a replacement keyfob for my 2009 335i. Do I have to pay this much, or can I get a genuine key properly programmed to my vehicle for less?

The dealership price sounds high, but consider that they might have quoted you a out-the-door cost that includes
  • Replacement Comfort Access FOB (higher cost than non-CA fob)+ new valet key
  • Pairing the key to the car for standard radio remote button control
  • Programming the FOB for CA control of doors and ignition (the key can come from the parts depot to work the standard remote but NOT the CA function!)

..whereas the other prices might be only item 1, or only item 1+2 . Compare Apples to Apples in your shopping.

The link you posted is showing exactly dealer price $500 for CA fob with key blade. On top of that there's programing required by the dealer.
