Downpipe Emissions and DP Fix

Hey all. So I'm looking in to getting some downpipes here soon and I've done some research but still have one major question that is keeping me from purchasing them.

I have a JB4 tune on my car, so from what I've found and understand the JB4 has a built in DP fix that will keep the dash clear of codes that would be brought on by running with catless downpipes. However, when it comes time to do emissions testing the JB4 DP fix will not do anything to remedy the fact that the car will fail when it comes to readiness testing. Correct me if any of this is inaccurate.

So I've found that a separate DP fix is recommended, which actually tells the sensors everything is cooler than a penguin eating a snowcone so that emissions testing can be passed. BMS specifically is the one I've found that people recommend. I can't seem to find the BMS DP fix, and one that I have found seems to be different from what people in older threads have suggested (I've found one online that has a toggle switch?...) Anyone have anything they can tell me about going catless DP and being able to run code free and pass emissions testing?

Hoping any catless DP users out there can enlighten me or offer some advice. Thanks!

Put it in for passing emissions, and take it out right after. JB4 will only keep the CEL from coming on.

Cool thanks a lot for the response! Is there a certain amount of time prior to taking the car in for emissions testing that I should install the fix and run the vehicle with this specific part?

I went about 2 weeks of daily driving and everything passed fine. Check I/M readiness at AAP, pep boys, wherever with their code scanner and make sure all of the O2 sensors show ready.

Mix of highway, city, and cold starts is the best idea.

does cali only do OBD2 inspection to pass a smog check or do they actually put the car onto the dyno/rollers and use the sniffer too? the reason i ask is, even if you use an electronic defeat to do the highly illegal activity (not sure why you would post a thread like this with your traceable username), there is no way to pass the sniffer test which will show its not running properly and you will fail + have to get it re tested or have a more closer physical inspection of the car which will prove illegal components on a streetable car (remember catless DPs are illegal for street use).

what most people do is put catless DPs on their track cars or cars used on private roads in countries like Mexico... then use a standalone DPFix to get back their timing correction.

Well when I purchased the car and got it smogged they only did the OBD2 inspection, no sniffer or dyno/rollers.

Good to know... anyone else get a smog check done on a 335i or more importantly to me a 335xi/xdrive? I'm curious if they put on the sniffer, I keep hearing about the STAR program

i was told that at the beginning of 2015 in California that only 1999 and older cars go the sniffer/dyno test for a smog. All 2000 and newer cars do not do the sniffer.

I did. Its obd 2 test, all have to be ready. Then visual. No rollers or sniffers on obd2 cars. Obd1, yes, passed my 95 m3 earlier this year.
