How much material to wrap inner trim

For those who have done theirs...how much material did you use to wrap your trim. Looking at trying something a bit different but not sure how much material to order

I would say 1 meter of a 60 inch roll should be enough todo it once so if this is you first time working with vinyl i would say get 2 meters and that way you will get 2 goes on each panel.

as for the price it really depends on what finish you are after. For a standard gloss or matte colour £8-15 per meter and for the likes of carbons or brushed aluminium vinyl can be anything from £20-£70 per meter. mdp have kpmf carbon at the moment for £13.14 + vat

Have a look at some of the kpmf vinyl from http://www.mdpsupplies.co.uk , that is decent stuff and not crazy money compared to 3m etc. There should be a store near you and if not they deliver. An idea if its your first time working with vinyl wrap get a meter of bog standard gloss black, £10 for a meter and use that to practice with especially if you are going to spend a lot on a fancy expensive carbon

Oh and make sure to remove the panels before you wrap

I just ordered some for a different car, but went with 1.5 x 30cm for the door inserts/dash trime and 1.5x60cm for the centre console - came to about £20 delivered from Flammin wheels.

So long as its 60 inch roll that should be plenty and also leave you with lots spare. MDP is also good for scalpel blades and knives etc which are essential for a clean tidy job. super heating the vinyl is important aswell especially with interior wraps due to the temperature the inside of the car gets on hot days. The edges of the vinyl should be heated up to 100 degrees using an infra red thermometer and heat gun but don't worry if you haven't got an infra red thermometer just make sure to give the edges a really good heat once your finished, again have ago at this on a practice panel you will be surprised how much heat the vinyl can take before distorting so don't be scared.

Good luck with the job and post some pics up once you are done and let us see what finish you went for

I have previously had trim wrapped on an exchange basis from someone who specialises it in, but I would not recommend it. Over time bubbles started to appear. The company that wrapped my car won’t do internal trim for this reason. Trim parts have a difficult geometry to wrap and you need a thick vinyl so avoid damage in use.

I would power coat or try to pick up what you are looking for from classified.

I have never experienced problems with interior wraps. but good quality material is key and also as I said above can't stress enough about the super heating. plastic parts can't be powder coated only painted but I would say if it's gloss black your after then paint is the way to go much more depth than the vinyl which tends to have an orange peal finish but this is only really noticeable on gloss black vinyl.

But the sun never shines in Scotland I found the wrap got small bubbles when it was hot, although there was only a few of them. They diminished when it was colder. I can only go my experience and they were wrapped by someone that does it for a living.

I have painted trim but not powder coated it. I know power coating involves heat, but I did not think it would be high enough to cause problems with the trim. The problem with paint is that it scratches easily.

Don't know exactly why it can't be done but we used to get lots of plastic centre caps etc to spray for local wheel powder coaters think it's because the coating is magnetically applied to the surface and also heat issues with the baking process

I had the trim sprayed gloss black in my old e90 ( black leather interior ) it looked stunning I will try and find the link to the thread i posted. I was careful with it so scratching wasn't an issue but it was hard to keep clean from finger prints and dust etc.

For my next car I would probably would go for a nice high quality carbon. Hexis do some very nice ones. but never mind that I would just be happy finding a decent e91 for sale....

Power coating with metal items is achieved via an electro-static charge, but you can pre-heat non-metallic items and still powder coat them. The heat could however be a problem depending on the material used for the trim.

Nice painting btw on your trim.
