7,000 miles is way too long. Change it every 2,200 miles. And change the filter every 1,250 miles. Just to be safe.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

The brand of oil doesn't change what interval you should use (as long as everything is LL-01 or LL-04). I would - and do - use something close to BMW's recommendations (10K miles to 15K miles).

On a more serious note, you'll find plenty of oil interval debates if you search for it. I for one get a fresh batch every 10,000 km.

The only thing anyone can tell you with a degree of certainty is that the BMW 15,000 interval for free changes is entirely too long.
If you are really concerned about it, change it at 5,000 miles, send a sample to Blackstone and let the results of the analysis guide you from there. |
