a1bnspecialist performance remap

I took a trip to see Old Grey Steve and Ad at A1bnspecialist in Stevenage 2 weeks ago for a performance remap for the 335d. I've had the car over 6 years and it's something I've always wanted to do but priorities had something else for me to spend money on. At £240 including vat i thought it was a bargain so went for it. Everybody has told me it's like a new car...not so sure about that but it does feel like a new engine. The thing just goes, only have to touch the throttle and it wants to eat tarmac. It's a lot smoother as well, it works so much better with the transmission i haven't put the foot down. I do some spirited driving to work early and late hours so I'm the only one on the rural roads and can enjoy the driving and not the hold ups. I've found there are a few place the car used to drop a gear for hills and now it just cruises up them with ease wanting you to push it. As i said, I'm new to remapping and I've just realised I've wasted 6 years and should have done it a long time ago. On top of that I'm getting a couple more miles to the gallon. The only down is.. its highlighted that i need a new suspension setup to match the power. Not another 6 year wait I hope.
They also noticed i had a small leak from swirl flaps so had those sorted whilst there.
Steve and Ad made me feel at home. Even drove me to town so i could get a haircut. Fantastic, well worth the trip.
Thank You

You must really have seen the difference if you had the car for six years stock! Sounds like a great price too from Steve. I was like you and a little unsure, but once you've tried it remapped there's just no going back!

Ah pleased to see that post the work things we knew that would fall in to place have. The map itself isn't/wasn't too aggressive and that's the beauty I think its the right side of acceptability but its strong enough to compete with those who are out there if you follow me.

As you've stated the onset of more power can/may highlight other issues as the new found power will hve you travelling at a faster rate than perhaps you were used too.

As you know we don't just upload a map and take your money we do inspect eery single vehice that we map to ensure that its up to the task. We discoverd a leaking inlet manifold where your swirl flaps were leaking oil dripping oil on to the near side lower block asssembly which longterm though tollerable isn't exactly good news, if these are leaking in our eyes get them attended too not for the fact that they could get ingested(the risk is somewhat reduced on these later diesels compared with the E46 era)butbecuase you have issues re an obviuos oil leak plus lose of efficiency and even contamination issues later on.

It was only right to address this first, plus you do actualy post this work get a slightly better throttle response to boot, but the aim is preventitive as the one sneaky picture that was taken of your swirl flaps shows.

but once this was all done the only bit of advise we placed at your door was this..

though not wringing wet like this one

it would be the next maintenence item on my to do list. But on to the reason why you came in the first place... the magic corner

Really pleased though that your happy with what went on as that's what its all about. Don't leave the gearbox too long though
