Standard Audio Specs?
I spent an appropriate amount of time searching the posts but was unable to find the specs. on the standard audio. Does anyone have this?
I am trying to avoid the second hump (required for enhanced audio) and am wondering if the stock audio will be acceptable. |

The enhanced audio (Logic 7) requires the tech pkg. and the "second hump" on the dashboard. So, I am curious about the specs on the stoc audio...that does not require the tech pkg. and "second hump" on the dash.

676 Base system - AM/FM stereo/CD audio system with Hi-Fi 10-speaker system including Amplifier with vehicle specific equalizing 677 Logic 7 - AM/FM stereo/CD audio system with Hi-Fi 13-peakers with Professional DSP (Digital Sound Processor LOGIC 7) - not available in the US 752 Enhanced Pemium Sound (aka, Individual High-end Audio) AM/FM stereo/CD audio system with 16 speakers, high-end amplifier performance, optimised cooling system, unique speaker grilles and vehicle-speed-sensitive equalization - $1,900 US; requires iDrive/nav. 672 CD Changer for 6 CDs (MP3 compatible) is a dealer-installed accessory Only 752 requires iDrive. BMWNA, in its wisdom, is denying us a midrange choice that the rest of the world has. So, it's $1,900 (+nav) or nothing, versus say a $1,200 choice. Hopefully the base system is at least as good as the E46 HK system, which is marginal. Whether the premium system (same as the one in the M5) is worth it depends on personal needs, but it's supposed to be quite good.

There have to be woofers; I assume you mean subwoofers? Maybe a current owner can respond.

In Australia Logic 7 is standard and the Individual High End system is a A$1900 option. This system is much better than the HK in the E46 M3. The imaging is 100 per cent better.

What is the E46HK system? Was that an option? The only comparison I can make across the platforms is between the 676 and the base system in my E46 325. The 676 is much better. |

Many thanks, especially to Greg W.
Aussiem: The HK is a Harmon Kardon system that was made "stock" in US spec E46's in 2003 I think. If the standard system is at least as good as the HK system (that I have now). I will go that route and beef it up a bit later if I am not fully satisfied. $1900 and iDrive seems a bit much just to get good auido. Thanks all! |

Back to my original question: Does anyone have specs on the standard system (amp power, sub-woof. etc.)?
Do current owners with stock audio want to respond? |

Not to be a poser, but I do preferr the look of the "unique speaker grills". Does anyone know if they can be purchased seperately and if they are uniform in size for easy instalation?

I just went to a dealership today to hear the top-level system in an M5. I found it and listened to a Santana CD. Definitely among the best sound I have heard. I have logic 7 in my 335i (13 speakers, incl 2 subs under front seats) and this system was definitely clearer, with deeper and more powerful base and pretty spectacular imaging.
I have heard the base 10-speaker system and thought it sounded decent, but it definitely lacks low-end punch. This is a tough one, since it requires Nav (which I really don't car about having). However, the technology package (Nav, comfort access, and adj suspension) is not too horribly expensive at $3250 (basically pay for Nava and suspension and get the CA for $150). Also gets you adjustible steering and M-drive. Go find an M5 with that stereo and take a listen. If you really enjoy music it is pretty spectacular.
