How much do you pay for oil?

So I just went to Walmart and they had a 5qt. container of Mobil 1 0w-40 full synthetic for $23 bucks! Autozone wants like 8 bucks a qt. so I bought this from wally world and now I'm under the impression I got it for a good deal, right..? I am about to tackle my first ever oil change with owning my car, and I got all the necessities for around $30 do you guys pay the same..?

Yup. I buy BMW oil filters in bulk online (can't remember where) for like $10 per filter, and the 5 qt jugs from Wal Mart.

The engine requires 7 quarts of oil. You should only use OE or OEM oil filters MANN. Most after market filters to do not fit correctly.

Maybe he is!

$23 for a 5/qt jug of M1 is a good deal. Advance, Pep girls, Autozone, they're all around $7-8/qt.

Only the 5qt jug is a deal. By the quart it's $8ish at Walmart too. I typically buy Walmart M1 jugs too. They're too cheap to buy anything else, and the oil is good.

Good but not great. I only use it in the summer (it's in the engine now).

Come fall I'll replace it with Castrol 0w30 for the winter.

Whatever is on sale. Usually Quaker State though. Most modern oils are fine.

i work at a dealership and get mobil1 for about 5.50 a qt.. and mann filters for about $5 .. but that was for the e46 ...
i think i might just do my oil changes at bmw on my e90 ($80 coupons) .. just in case i need a favor from BMW one day .. besides i might trade it in next year.

well, up until now i have always done my own maintenance on my e46. but if i can keep getting coupons for $80. i will take my e90 to BMW of ft myers ..or germain ..they both have coupons..

it looks better to the dealership and to BMW customer service if you have most of your maintenance done with them .. it may help one day if you need them to goodwill something or just flat out warranty something ..

Not all BMWs take 7 quarts. Only our engines.

And not that you don't already know this, but M cars use a more expensive oil.

Oh ok, thanks for clarifying that.. My girl has a 128i so I guess having some extra oil on hand isn't a bad idea anyway..
