Alpina B3 Flash in Bay Area
Hey all, I know this topic was part of an old thread but I haven't had any luck getting in touch with any of the members who were identified as good resources at the time for the Alpina B3 Flash in the Bay Area.
Anyone know of any local spots/coders/members who can help me out with this mod in the Bay Area? |

Unless you have larger turbos you won't benefit from the flash.
The main difference between stock and Alpina is the torque converter lockup which happens later with the Alpina soft (enables faster rpm raise in order to shorten turbo lag)

From what I understood, it changed how the transmission shifted, different feel from the stock TCU.

Well he's right to a certain point. The software was designed to work on the more powerful Alpinas so it definitely feels a bit more refined with a tune (not necessarily a turbo upgrade). I had the flash for a few months before I tuned. I liked the flash generally but it did feel a little sluggish until I got the tune.

Correct me if I'm wrong? I thought the whole point of the TCU flash was to make it snappier and match gears more appropriately during spirited driving. It's the closet way for us 6AT owners to get to the likes of the DCT offered in the ///M's and IS, right? |

Yeah sorry, I should have been more clear. The way I see it, it makes both D and S more extreme versions of themselves. There's the very conservative D (which I usually use), which upshifts quickly and gets great fuel economy. Then there's S which feels way more aggressive than stock sport mode. So it kind of takes out the middle ground.
