Manual Transmission Fluid

My car is at 97k so I am thinking a transmission fluid change is in the near future. I have narrowed down to Redline D4 and D6 ATF. I heard the D4 is better in hot climates. Is this true? Thanks!

I've been running D4 in temps from -15 to 105 with no issues.

I have been running D6 for a couple of years

I have been running D6 for a couple of years
It cleared up some notchy 2nd an 3rd gear problems.
It what redline shows on there app and I believe its
a little thicker than the stock fluid.

It never gets super hot where I live pretty much .
I went skiing when there was such a thing as snow in California
with no problems.

I've only used the OE fluid in my E90's manual transmission. Just hit 282K last week. That said, I used Redline MTL in my E30's trans for most of it's life and it went to 290K (or farther); I sold the car. But that was with BMW's recommended change interval of 30,000 miles.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

2007 335i 6MT Redline D6 when in with new clutch 5k miles ago. 117k presently. So far a little smoother than 100k old oem fluid.

I used D4 per the recommendation on Redline's website. Feels like OEM to me.

I have got redline ATF for about a year in my car. I am in baltimore and i haven't had no issues. Initially the fluid swap fixed the hard 2nd gear issue but overall i don't like the feeling of this oil that much. I will go back to OEM next winter.

I agree to an extent, I also don't feel like the oil changed a whole lot after the first couple hundred miles. The beginning was like butter, now it's slightly better than it was before. However, it's better than stock when it comes to real cold weather.

I'm in Florida where the coldest it gets is 40 and the average is 90 so I need whatever is best for hot weather.

You should email Redline directly if you're really concerned. But OEM is fine for hot climates too.

Is anybody running Amsoil MTF? They don't seem to have a product recommendation for our cars.

Put in Redline MTL today. Not sure what was in there before, most likely OEM fluid, but it was all black and nasty looking.
While at it, swapped drain and fill plugs for Dimple magnetic ones. Was only able to fit about quart and a quarter before it started to overflow.
Must say, shifts are considerably smoother with the Redline fluid.

How often did you change it? I have never changed mine (~105k miles today) and have always doubted whether I would feel a change. Is the gear changing really better afterwards? Isn't a bit of a rough gear change 'normal' for BMW with cold engines? Does the oil come out really dirty? I'd only use OEM oil by the way, but the dealership charges over $100 for a one-quarter oil change...
