Admiring Encounters of the Positive Kind
This is the first real road trip we've taken with our new convertible and so far, on 4 separate occasions people have come up to us with positive comments. " Wow, nice car" , " Hey, wanna trade?" "Sweet Ride ," What's a bit strange is that I traded my yellow 911 cab for this car and didn't get as many comments. Maybe BMW's are more approachable. We must have gotten about 6 thumbs up as well. I wonder if my new Cool Carbon brake pads and CLEAN WHEELS are the reason.......

Saw a guy in a Renault Megane RS265 staring at me on the highway once the day after I changed my wheels

Now that I have a BMW myself, I won't hesitate to compliment other BMW owners on their cars, especially the M cars.

The other day I caught sight of a SUV hood pulling up in the lane next to me at a red light, no big deal. Then out of the corner of my eye, I saw he was backing up, and I just figured 'moron, got in the wrong lane'. Nope. Pulled forward again, beeped at me to roll my window down and he and his passenger both proceeded to enthuse (slobber) over my car. Was pretty funny.

Yep, have gotten plenty of smiles on the car.
Last week I pulled up into a strip mall right in front of a little pizza joint. The dude who worked in there came outside smiling. We said some hellos and I did a little rev for him.

I've had a few nice remarks at drive-throughs, but overall, much less than my RX-8 used to get. I feel kind of invisible compared to before.

I went down town to buy some new Ray-Bans several months ago and as I was chatting with the 2 owners of the store, we discovered that we were mutual BMW enthusiasts. When I told them about my new M235i, they just about soiled their pants.
So later, I made it a point to pull up in front of their store on the main street of town, complete with new Ray-Bans, stop, beep my horn and give them a good engine rev. They really liked that! Drooling happened!

Funny: I live in a town where BMWs of all types are quite ubiquitous. I haven't received near as many overt slobberings/compliments/drive-bys as I thought I would given the relative rarity of the 2-series. (Granted, I drive a 228i M Sport -- but it's a fairly distinct-looking 228i M Sport).
The one that comes to mind was at a take-and-bake pizza place next door to a chicken-wing restaurant. While waiting for my pizza, a gaggle of men of mostly Middle Eastern or subcontinental descent (the area is heavy with telecom techies) meandered out, saw the car, and plainly started talking about it. I walked out and smiled at them as I got in, but no one said a word. About five of them stood behind the car as I backed out and were nodding approval as I pulled away.
