Aftermarket Exhaust Tips for BMW PE
After jumping on the E90 LCI 335 exhaust deal, I'm having a hard time accepting I have to install the exhaust with the factory tips.
After reading numerous threads about the change in sound (not for the better), that installing aftermarket exhaust tips on the BMW PE, does anyone have any confirmed tips that don't change the sound? I've read theories about the tip being wider, the exhaust bend being altered, and the inside diameter of the pipe not being as smooth after the tip installation causing the negative impact. In short, has anyone successfully replaced the BMW PE exhaust tips and still maintained the factory exhaust note? Last edited by Wingnut335; 05-15-2015 at 09:58 AM.. |

I don't think the tips change the sound.
Do you have the screw on tips? And am I right in reading you don't like the sound? How come?

I haven't installed the exhaust yet. Prior to installing the exhaust I'm trying to see if I can buy replacement tips that won't negatively impact the sound. A lot of people say that changing the tips won't change the sound, however a lot of people who have bought the BMW PE and replaced the tips have made comment about the sound changing. Some say it's a little less exotic sounding, while others claim it's quieter. I don't plan on spending $200 on tips if any of this is true.

I can't prove that in either way. But I did the recent buy if the PE and the install and I am very pleased with it. The sound is great.
Mine came with bolt on tips. Not sure about yours. I was expecting welded on tips. In any case I doubt the tips will make much of a sound difference. I found that with the bolt on tips I like them most sticking out a bit further than stock. Nice and shiny and draw the the right amount of attention.

Thanks for the feedback. My exhaust came in about 3 days ago and I never bothered to check if the tips were bolted on or welded on. I just assumed they were like my OEM exhaust and were welded on. If they are bolted on, that would definitely make things a lot easier.

Changing tips won't alter the sound... Unless you install one of these silly turbo tips...

Whistle tips go woo woo! It's that woo woo, you know what I'm sayin'?!
On a serious note, I got THESE when I did my PE-mod, and they look great.

I'm actually just waiting on some takeout food but I'll see if I can snap and upload a photo before I jump back in the car. To be honest I don't know which one is newer. All I can say is I am really surprised with the tips I got. I've never seen these, only the welded on ones. What I do know is my exhaust sounds bad ass. Lol My 335 has been sitting in the garage since Sunday. I commute in my jeep. Much easier dealing with NYC traffic.

Oh, I ordered mine off BMW USA website and located the nearest dealer by me for pickup. Received the box at Prestige BMW in Ramsey NJ.

I know it's poorly aligned. I'll be working on that this weekend.

It won't sound good either way. I know, it's a bummer since you just bought it. I'll take it off your hands so you don't take a loss on it
But in all honesty, I'm glad you got that deal. If you change tips, it will alter sound. How much depends on the tips. Good luck.

Thanks for posting up those pics. My PE exhaust is the typical 3" welded on polished tips. I wonder why they made the change and if there's any additional changes internally.
I'm currently trying to decide if I should transfer my Dimisa tips onto the PE exhaust, order new tips, or just run the PE exhaust as is. |

I think the one mechanic difference you may see is a flap in the drivers side muffler. I've researched and found that some PE's have this, others have just a peg to plug the tube into. Almost sure the euro version has the flap. Does yours?

Yep same thing. I was hoping it did not have the flap.
