Steinbauer Tune - Ordered

So i creamed in. I was sure i could wait another 2 years for my warranty to run out before taking the plunge, but i just cant! After recieving a good quote from Lorcan i made my mind up straight away however ACS Norfolk is a crazy distance to travel so i decided to order direct from Steinbauer UK and fit it in Manchester this weekend maybe. *Sorry Lorcan!!*

Cannot wait to see what differences this piece of kit makes as after investigating for a good while it seems this is categorically the best route to go down, before thinking about dpf removals, full remaps and the likes.

will update next week

I look forward to reading your review! Something I want to do soon too. It would be great if you could post a few install pics too as I hear the instructions are a little cryptic.

The 6 injector connections are very self explanatory, but i would have never found the EGT sensor connections without the photos of the install that the guy who sold me the box gave me!

Oh and the 335d has an extra connector that goes to the accelerator pedal i believe, god knows how that goes!

I have installed the 335d Steinbauer and the wire has no connector and you can push it through the rubber grommet that seals the bonnet cable in through the bulk head as it needs to be spliced into the white wire on the back of the foot throttle ....or apparently its the white wire that goes into the ECU (there are too many wires for me to confidently be sure which one)I did the first method ........its not much fun

I didn't realise that the 335d is the only one to have an extra accelerator wire I would be interested to know why?

She has arrived! Quick delivery!. All looks fairly simple to set up that is untill i have to connect the white accelerator pedal reference wire. pretty sure its gonna be a task getting the cable to where it needs to be but after thats ahieved ill need to find the right wire to tap into. any tips dungaboy? I understand you have done 2 of these?

Thanks i will take pics and do a bit of a write up/review when all done.

When you pop the bonnet up on the drivers side you will find the rubber grommet that seals around the bonnet cable the easiest way is to push a small screwdriver through on the under side (I would get hold of some mig wire and attach to the end of the accelerator wire and pull it down behind the carpet)
The accelerator has a small plastic cap if you pick it out you will find a Torx screw this is the only one to hold the pedal down and once you have removed it you will need to push the pedal and its assembly forward and up as it hooks on a steel plate.
The wire is the only pure white wire on the back of the pedal the other 5 have some form of colour to them

Have fun its a bit of a bitch

Oh and the box can be fixed by the rubber grommit

Well this afternoon was fun, its all fitted except not powered ill do that in the morning, struggleing to find a good ground point.

The white wire, after all my worries, was actually one of the easier parts. I used a long bbq skewer to get passed the gromet, sticky taped the wire on , a splash of manlube and pulled it right through.

The worst was the EGT connector, i located it at the rear of the engine drivers side. But struggled to get a grip of it and pull at same time. In the end i got a good grip and tugged on the wire itself, slightly risky but out she popped.

The injector connections i hope i got the right way round, started from front of engine, with rest of the loom coming out of the rear. Seems correct.

Ive took plenty of photos for those interested in a writeup

Theres a nice ground point in the same area as the positive point, behind the brake fluid reservoir/servo, you'll need an M4 (iirc) nut though:

Teaston, dungaboy. Could you in anyway explain where you EGT connectiin is located? I think ive done the right one but a little hesitant, before i fire it all up id like to be as sure as possible. The one i traced is on drivers side, a thin metal tube coming off what seems to be the manifold / exhaust, i traced the wire to just behind engine drivers side, the clip is not visible, but accessable. This sound about right? My connections seem to have clicked in fine

I would be very interested in the performance improvement. I've got the 330d but very interested in Steinbauer box - it looks to me like the best 'box'. Thanks for the write up so far.

Ill have to give it a few days before i could say difinitively, the ecu will be going through a minor learning process for a few miles. ive got it set to just under full power, if teaston is correct then i guess this to be +25% ish. Which by steinbauers figures would mean 380+bhp / 750nm torque. At a rough guess.

I can tell you 1 or 2 things straight off the bat though. Steinbauer havent said this specifically but the car feels so much smoother. Just moving around town and in traffic is a massive improvment! I dont know what part of the tune is doing it but its a very nice feeling. Planting the right foot in comfort mode unleashes and absolute beast of power. much more noticeable higher up the rev range. It seems to just pull and pull and pull.

Im certain sport is going to really unleash it, ill leave that untill tomorrow

the standard car is fast, but now its just stupid and pleasent all in one.

Glad you're happy with it mate! I think the improvement round town is the increase in low down torque.

I got the percentages from the instruction book, 130% of 20% is 26%:
