SoCal Canyon Drive [Now with Videos!]
My buddy and I are going out to Mulholland Dr. to do some spirited canyon driving on Saturday, May 9th at around 8am. The only real plan is to go out there and get lost in the twisty bits for a few hours. If any locals want to tag along and have some fun with us let me know!

Be careful, it's not the street-racer's paradise it used to be. You might find PCH or parts of Topanga to be better. I used to wring out my little Lotus Elan Turbo on Mulholland but that was twenty years ago.
What are you guys driving, M235is? Stick or auto? Liberal use of m/t with paddles is suggested if the latter... |

Just went to a wedding out on Topanga canyon. A few areas where you can see ahead and be safe, but many times you come around a corner to a pack of cyclists. Lot's of hippy driveways as well, where folks can pull out in the VW busses. :-) Other areas: -Out by Palmdale, off the Little Rock Hiway, there are many up/down twisty roads that shoot off towards the hills. -Out in the Santa Ynez Valley by Los Olivos, there are some excellent foothill/canyon roads that get quiet when you get away from the towns -Some of my faves are near Paso Robles (which is a good drive away), where there are lots of wineries. Some of the more remote roads out there are pretty isolated and plenty twisty. |

I would avoid going too fast on the weekends on the famous snake. Lots of blind turns with bikers, cyclists, and other cars trying to use both lanes.

Second-ed ...and people showing off for the peanut gallery on the weekends. I have loved every minute of driving down there, but Mulholland, Encinal, etc. have all become pretty busy on the weekends.

Canyon drive is over. Tons of cyclists all over, but that's the weekend for you. We ended up going Latiga a few times, then moved over to Mulholland and ran into Matt Farah aND his group. Then we drove over to Little Tujunga and had some fun. I'll post pics and video when I get home

Here are a few pictures from yesterday!
My buddy's Fiesta ST and my 228i in the back: Some of the cars that Matt Farah was driving (he was doing his '1 take' videos and was about to begin another with the Red golf in the back) Uploading videos from the gopro later. I'll post them up when they're all done.

Thescout13 I actually run a print shop down in Riverside and just printed them myself (it was a white carbon fiber film printed with the m-colors)

Added some videos of the drive. Excuse the poor gopro placement, first time really taking it out for a spin on the car and didn't know where to place it.

The fiesta is a blast. My friend drives like a madman on those roads. It's terrifying attempting to keep up. haha

Thanks for posting the videos; I miss Southern California. I was there for only one 4 day trip (extended a 1/2 day business trip), but I fell hard for the place quickly.
