LSD in every CPO car?

So i am looking at getting a 2014 M235i in the next couple months. Going through the BMW CPO part of the site I looked at many of the cars for sale. Every one I looked at had "limited slip differential" listed.

From what I understand this was an option, not on the base model.
Is it possible that the BMW site is actually accurate and most 2014 M235i's out there have this? Or is this just marketing and when you call to confirm they tell you that its only in some? Prob the more expensive ones.

Thanks!

also is there any way to check options via a vehicle number or something or would you have to call and ask?

as far as i know they're not standard, it's a 2.8k option when I ordered mine earlier this year in February. Probably won't come standard unless it's the M2.

Try using this VIN decoder, seems to show all the details when I entered mine:

Probably just a bunch of dealers incorrectly assuming the car has a LSD, or, by default the system checks off that box because it is configured incorrectly.

It's extremely unlikely that any of those cars have a mechanical LSD which is the $3000 M performance option that very few people opt for.

If it was showing up for every car I suspect it is just an error, or a strange way of them pointing out the car has an "electronic Limited Slip Differential"

Am I right in that the f30 335i has an open dif?
So is ELSD standard on the m235i where MLSD is the option? Or is ELSD an option and MLSD the "M" option?

Since the limited slip option is either dealer or port installed, it will not be on the vin decoder. The vin decoder only shows factory options.

Is there a definite way to tell if there's a mechanical LSD by looking under the car?

Maybe there are some different numbers on it somewhere, but my LSD looks identical to the open diff without looking at every little detail on it.

It's highly unlikely they're actually equipped with the M performance LSD. If I remember correctly, they weren't even available to be port installed until the '15 model came out

I concur with the above post. When i would build the 2014 models online, the lsd was never listed as an accessory. So probably bs.

Yes its fancy bs. They all have e-diff, but mech LSD was an option that was offered much later. Then finally they started offered it as a port installed option.

so I guess my question is... is there anything wrong with the E dif, or is the mech just way better?

There is nothing wrong with the e diff. If you are spending the majority of your time on the street then the mechanical LSD does not offer a huge advantage in normal driving.

If you plan on tracking the car extensively, the MLSD is a better way of getting the power down and provides better and more predictible handling at the limit, especially if you're going to be sliding the car around.

Without the LSD the car is still extremely capable, so I would not consider it a crutch in any way since the eLSD does a good job of helping to balance the torque when it needs to.

I have a CPO car (since October 2014) and it did not come with the real LSD.
