Rock chips, light scratches, what to do?

A car floored it ahead of me and a ton of rocks hit my front bumper and hood. Both are now covered in little white rock chips. My brand new BSM M4, so I am going crazy, not to mention, all of of the little scratches you can only see in certain light.

Option 1: see if BMW will paint the bumper for under $1000 and go through insurance (low deductible)

That's all I got!

Swirl marks can be polished out. If the rock chips aren't big, you can touch them up with some paint.

Find the car and well... take some keys to it..

That would be the best bet.. or as Padfan9 just get some OEM Bmw paint and just fill them

Depending on how bad and how many rock chips, getting a re-spray may not be a bad idea. Otherwise, you might try some touch-up paint. Two good systems are Langka and Dr.Colorchips. Langka makes you use the factory touch up paint. DrColorchips color matches to your car. Either way, it's a long, meticulous, and painstaking process to do it good. Best bet would be to either do it yourself or find a good detailer, who can also polish out the swirls too. If you do it yourself, check out a video by Larry from AmmoNYC first on how to do touch ups the right way. He's a pro detailer, and has some good vids.

That really sucks big time! I would be so angry! I bet you are just sick about this.

It's hard to suggest which way to go without seeing the damage. If the chips are 'white' that means the paint is gone and there's nothing to polish out. If it's a new car, I would consider calling your insurance company as it is damage. That will make her new again.

I used Dr. Color chip in my Sapphire Black e60 M5 and was very impressed by how well it worked. However, unless you fill and wait, fill and wait a few times, the surface will not be smooth and either way up close you'll see them.

If you leased it, you might think oh well. If you bought it, you probably want it perfect again and that's going to mean filing a claim.

Thanks bro! I will file a claim. I bought the car, so that's really my only option.

That so sucks. Sorry to hear. From the description, Dr. ColorChip (http://www.drcolorchip.com) might be your best bet, but I agree with obtaining an opinion from the best bodyshop you can find.

I had a truck carrying 3/4" aggregate dump a load of it on the road through a huge hole in the floor of it all over the front of my new M6 GC CP
This was in January this year car only 3 months old.
£6K paint job total cost £10K with parts ect and prestige car supply.
I hired a Bentley at this arseholes expense.

BMW made it look as new again, what surprised me was the cost of a windscreen for theses cars over £2K

This is a big reason why I don't tailgate other cars. With dump trucks and other construction vehicles, I try to not even be in the same lane!

I purposely hold way back off those vehicles until I have a clear way to fly around them without get stuck behind other cars.

When it is all fixed up invest in a clear bra. Since you own the car a clear bra will last 5 or more years and will add value if u resell as the paint will be like new underneath.

Sucks that most municipalities can no longer afford street sweepers.

ADAMS paint correction, finishing polish and Patriot wax will make fast work of the swirls, and with a black car you will need these anyway. The rock chips, well, that depends how bad they are.

Ferdinand Porsche once said he was sad when he saw one of his porsches without any rock chips on the nose because cars were meant to be driven.

Man that sucks for sure, if you own the car definately invest in a clear bra after you get it corrected it is worth it as I have a BSM too, chips will show like crazy and I am OCD about that stuff. I would avoid insurance claim as last resort since you probably would get double dinged with premium increase for the claim.

The good news is, my deductible is $100 and anything under $1000 doesn't hurt my rate. I'm getting a quote from BMW today then clear bra!

This is the EXACT reason why I'm getting a full front clear bra and a Dashcam

I have a significant blemish on the front left of my bumper (a chip and also a large scuff). I hit a price of a blown tire that was kicked up in front of me. Ii was in the middle lane in traffic - no where to go. It sucked seeing it coming with no where to go.

I am going to try dr colorchip and plan to document the process and results for everyone here wondering how well it works.

Probably not and even if so probably not as much as you paid for clear bra. Had no clear bra and a few rock chips on both my E9x. Both sold for premium value.
