Low beam malfunction

So I was running errands yesterday and I got an error saying Low Beam Malfunction and sure enough my driver side headlight is out.

Kinda surprising since the car is only 13 months old. Car goes into the dealership Friday morning to get checked out. Anyone experience this before? Seems kinda surprising that a ballast would blow out 13 months in, my Infiniti never blew a single one in 7 years and 80k miles of ownership.

While it's in there, are there any software updates I should request? I also plan on asking about that fuel pump recall to try to avoid another trip.

My F15 had this happen after about 8 months. The light started flickering for a short while, then went out completely. Dealer stated "Xenon bulb failure". Dealer replaced the xenon bulb with the ignition unit, whatever that is. Has been fine since...

Yeah I figure it'll be an easy enough fix. I considered just fixing it myself but replacement xenon bulbs aren't cheap (about $200 on getbmwparts.com, so instead I'm just dropping it off at the same dealership that runs that site on Friday).

Oddly enough, yesterday JD Power sent me an invitation to fill out a survey as to the reliability of my car. In one year of ownership I've had:

-Chassis Malfunction error, replaced front acceleration sensor.
-Drivetrain Malfunction error, dealer never found the cause of that and it hasn't returned since.
-Blown turn signal, dealer replaced bulb.
-Blown driver's side headlight.
