How do you remove the third brake lamp/lens?
I have been trying to install a new third brake lamp/lens for the past couple weeks, and i cant get the faulty one out of the trunk lid. can any one help with a "how-to" on removing the third brake lamp/lens on a 2003 Z4 Roadster. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Did you unbolt the light from the inside of the trunk lid. I just took mine out last week. 3 bolts with springs behind holding the light inside the trunk lid. You will need a deep socket or and extension. After the light comes out the kens just snaps off.
Can you tell me where you got you lens from. I am looking for just the lens as mine was cracked. |

Yeah, I took all three bolts out but the light didn't come out. I think that it has been pushed in all the way, where the lip is on the inside the metal of the trunk lid. I'm going to BMW Monday and complain my azz off and try to get them to replace it.

You should get that covered under warranty. I just read thier is a BMW service bulletin on the third brake light cracking on the Z4 due to the sprins in the back are too heavy and brake the lens. Mine was also stuck inside and it was cracked due to this problems. Mine is out of warranty and I also found out after I took it out and broke the lens.

i just got my car back from my dealer and my SA told me that its going to be around $230 to have that lens ordered and installed. so i guess im going to have it ordered and just install the lens myself and save the $160. Shouldnt be too difficult.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I never found the service bulliten but I did call my dealership and they would have replaced mine if I could get down to them. Winter is in full affect here to that not happening. Also my dealership is 6 hrs away. I'm gonna buy the clear thrid brake light from Leather Z for $60 and instal myself.

Its cool, my SA told me that a service bulliten is a collection of complaints of customers about a specific problem. He tried to quote me at $230 USD. So im going to order it from Tischer and DIY.
