Why did the correction factor change from 1.0 in the first run to 1.15 in the 'best' run? This would explain the 50hp gain.

I noticed a 20 degree temperature difference between runs 2 and 3 but I figured that was a mistake.

Air temp outside the garage was 48 degrees. Not sure why the other runs showed higher temps.

Tech said there was an air/fuel aberration during one of the runs that "self" corrected? Never did dyno runs before - are dynos all hocus pocus BS?

Got it. Impressive results anyway you look at it. It's been widely speculated that BMW underrates their engines. I know dyno results will vary quite a bit depending on a lot of factors including the brand of the dyno.

With 50hp difference, that was a waste of time. Which one was right?

Not entirely, they have a lot of value in tuning. Could be use to see the shape of your torque band and compare runs to your baseline. But in my opinion, peak hp and tq are just numbers at the end of the day and the better indication of which car is faster is on a quarter mile. There are too many factors that could skew the dyno numbers.
Also from what I understand dynos could be calibrated to read high or low, you could theoretically have you're car make 1000hp on a horribly calibrated dyno.

Back in the day, you would occasionally see underrates to get below insurance, race organizer, or government trigger points.

Nowadays? Who knows? Maybe they're afraid someone will sue them if they come up 1 HP low on a dyno test after someone spends $50k on the car.

The marketing people decide what HP they want to have as the official number. This way they make it more than the lower models and ensure a gap to the M3 and allow space for M2 to fit in. The only ones they don't underrate is the M5/6 I guess.
