How many ks / miles has your n54 done????

Hey guys new to the forum from Australia and new to the BMW world. I have been a JDM boy all my life but after getting married i thought time to get sensible so i purchased a Audi a4 b7 1.8t fwd it got me to appreciate german engineering until it started to break down on me and i ended up fixing this and that so i got rid of it.

I came across this very very well priced 2007 bmw e92 335i auto. I saw it had a inline6 twin turbo so i went to check it out.

It had quite high miles on it 150000ks ( 93000miles ). Uusually i wouldnt look at it with that sort of ks ( miles ) But it was a one mature owner car and serviced on time everytime at BMW Adelaide and more recently just before i took ownership owner had

Rocker cover gaskets replaced
injector o rings replaced
water pump replaced
serpentine belt replaced
all coolant hoses replaced
auto trans gasket sump replaced and just a bunch of other things which came to quite a large bill ( $7000.00 AUD )

So i took it for a test drive and OMFG was amazed at the power torque smoothness and how comfy it was at the same time. I was in loved and now she sits in my garage. Besides few scuffs here and their and slight headlight issue .

She is bone stock atm but future plans are JB4 , Charge pipe and DV , Intercooler. I plan on doing most of maintenance myself with more frequent oil changed using mobile 1 0-40w

The point of my post is basically what type of things should i do now in terms on strengthening reliability of the n54 before i start playing with it????

And I want to know how man high miles / ks n54 are still kicking on strong as i plan to keep this car for as long as i can.

Douche is saying it's an inline six cylinder, not a v6.

My n54's done a bit over 90k miles.

The only thing that occurs to me off the top of my head: change plugs religiously every 60k miles or sooner. If you tune it, every 30k miles.

Oh, and get a BMW-specific code reader for when you get odd troubles with the car.

Anything else I can think of.....

....oh yes, consider an oil catch can. I have one installed on my car, but it never seems to catch any oil. So...it may or may not be useful for you.

140k, but I'm not the highest on this forum by a long way...
Intake valve cleaning
Vacuum hoses soon (or wait for underboost codes)
Suspension (control arm bushings and shocks)

Other things to expect soon (repair when they go):
Oil pan gasket (coming with front suspension if it makes sense)
Oil filter housing gasket

My n54 has done 101k miles and still running strong. I'd advise strongly against Jb4 because it significantly decreases the life of your engine. Don't get me wrong, JB4 is one of the best ECU mods out there, however if you're going to run your car with solely stock parts, you may find yourself having to do more repairs than expected because JB4 is so intense and will literally cause so many problems for you if you're not properly prepared.

Gonna crack 130K this week. Nothing too serious so far. Although I do have a small leak coming from the rear of the oil pan area. That will be my most costly repair so far just cause of the labor costs and I really don't feel like DIY an oil pan on these things

If you're happy with the stock tune and power level, and don't want extra maintenance, stick with it. Pushing higher power levels will add some maintenance. Although, at the lower end, you're looking at plugs and coils slightly more often (almost negligible). It mainly depends on how you drive anyway.

Re: vacuum hoses, there's a few aftermarket options that are better than stock. The Internet is your friend.

Aww. That's sweet. But they'll probably come up with a name a little more harsh than "douche" if you grow up to be like me.

59k miles, runs very smooth as you would expect on that mileage, walnut blasting just done it, new plugs and single ignition coil, other than that - faultless. Very happy with it!

I don't know why people are so scared of jb4. You are adding power to a car. Of course the stock car wont have as many issues. All the jb4 does is point out the weak points in hardware. Its the same no matter the car. You add power, the weaker parts break or need updating. Be happy you can add 100hp for 500$. Not many cars can do that. As i always say, you gotta pay to play. End rant.

I fully agree ! I'm debating selling it only because I didn't expect THIS many issues. I know it wasn't entirely the jb4 fault, much would of went bad eventually probably. I wonder if I'm already over the hump tho or if I should get it off and sell it. After all this is my DD. The jb4 itself is magnificent
