Would you jump on a first gen M2 or wait for a GTS/CSL version?

SCOTT just mentioned that BMW MAY be investigating a more hardcore M2 with more cues from the vision GT. Personally, I am extremely interested in a more intense M2 but will still wait to determine if the base M2 will meet my needs. Things that may have me wait until a possible announcement of a GTS/CSL version would be the lack of a CF roof option, weight > 3400 lbs, the N55 not having the initial HP desired or tuning potential. If a buffed version would to be announced within the first year of the M2 with CF roof, the S55, better looks, and a price 10-15k above the M2 I may just have to wait... God damnit

$10-15k? I'm sorry but I literally laughed out loud. GTS/CSL's don't even come to the US when they exist. The E92 M3 GTS cost more than a 911 GT3 while the E46 M3 CSL was something like $30k more than the regular M3.

Personally, I'd never be interested in those cars. That's way too far into Porsche territory. Not to mention if you are concerned about the weight, stop loading up these cars with so many options. Then mod it yourself (that's half the fun for me right there!)

My 2 cents

If it's true that he mentioned it as a potential GT4 competitor, I'm guess it's going to be priced somewhat close to it. I'm sure it would be badass, but I'm also assuming it's not going to be very street friendly (no backseats, less sound deadening, etc.). That said, I would still love to see it.

I'm all for modding myself, but the N55 has been proven to be limited in tuning/ modding potential, really my biggest concern with the M2. I'm really hoping the beefed up these engines to handle higher hp numbers. If the N550T0 proves to be a tunable engine, I would much rather spend 15k in mods and have the car screaming.

Forget the M2 CSL. Not coming and will probably never come. Those are rumors just for the sake of keeping you - BMW fans - excited about the brand. Get the M2, best car you can get from BMW. If you need something else look elsewhere: Lexus, Mercedes, Porsche, maybe hopefully Alfa Romeo.

Like I said in another post......If it is produced the chances of it coming to the States is basically 0. Plus the price increase will make it stupid expensive.

Hands down, a street-able M2 is my cup of tea. If I want a track car, then I'll go the route of ground-up race car.

There seems to be a consensus that it will be too expensive and probably won't show up in the US. All I really want is an M4 in a M2 body, is that too much to ask? hah

I kind of get what you are saying, but at the same time, does the car really need that much more power? The M2 is supposed to be 360-380 hp, which really means whp. To me, that's plenty for a car this size. If I really wanted more power, than an M3/4 would make more sense IMO.

the issue is this IMO. there will always be something better or newer on the horizon. If you keep waiting and waiting you will never win. I say get what makes you happy at that moment. Just my 2 cents

The cynic in me is convinced we'd see a 2 Series Active Tourer M before we ever get an M2 CSL stateside.

Will they make an M2 csl? How many of us thought there would be a racing variant of the M235i? So I wouldn't be too surprised. Then again I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make one, after all an M2 csl poorly fills the highly sought after luxury fwd people mover sports van fourdoor coupe niche segment.

Are they really that much more?? That's crazy... you could get a regular M2 and build a ground-up e46 M3 race car for less money.

It would be nice if they offered some sort of edgier variant in the US, as long as the price increase wasn't outrageous.

LOL. are you living in reality? S55? $10k more? Do you even know how expensive CSL models have always been since the 70s?

These price increases are always outrageous. Whether you are talking about BMW with the CSL/GTS, Benz with Black Series or Porsche with their GT (minus the GT4, that's a killer bargain).

As you said, for that kind of money, you could build your own killer car minus the nice CF parts. And in the case of the E92 GTS, the 4.4L S65.

Having said that, I would not be surprised if in the future, somebody did throw an S55 into an M2 chassis

Well with my new purchase I've the luxury of waiting this one out. My guess in the uk is a £46-£48k base price, what % above would a CSL model traditionally be, 20-30%?

I've heard the N55 isn't as tune-able as the N54. Can someone please elaborate? If you do full bolt ons with a piggyback will you not get a substantial power increase? Do people blow engines when they do that? Just curious

I decided to wait for the potential CSL/GTS version. If that turns out to be a wrong decision it should be easy enough to get back in to a standard M2 as I understand it will be a full production model with decent supply.

Thank you for reiterating what has already been said. My thought process was if the base M2 starts around $55k, then a 15K price increase would put the beefier model starting at $70k (higher than the M3 and M4)... and considering my desired improvements are all on the M4 already that made sense to me.
