Jet Black Owners
After looking at all the color options, I consider Jet Black to be the nicest. My question is, how hard is to maintain for use as a daily driver? I've been told that black requires constant maintenance, waxing for example after each wash to prevent swirl marks. Or, just after its washed easily appears dirty again.
Thoughts please. Thanks. |

Black is no doubt tough as hell to keep clean.. but nothing stops that shine when your done washing it. Worth the extra work in my opinion.

black by far the sickest look for a bimmer..but it is hard to maintain for sureeeeee. it won't look dirty all the time, but you wash it probably 2-3 times more than any other color. it is definitely worth that extra work as stated above. just go for it!!

Love my Jet Black! Requires extra care but well worth it. Attracts alot of attention especially from the police.

It is a pain in the ass to keep clean, but if you do, it'll always look ready to show... Just dust it off everyday you get home from driving it and you'll be fine.

GET the car I have had a siver and is was nice but the jet black good as well. It is not my daily driver so most time it is inside. If you like a clean car you will keep it clean. I enjoy cleaning it anyway.

I'm gunna say if you want to keep your car looking like new dont get jet black. I use mine as a DD and yes it is hard to keep clean, but thats not my problem with it. I find it to be very soft and it swirls way too easily, I try to keep my car looking as new as possible and only hand wash it myself, but even then it's very hard to avoid swirling it. Even the softest microfibers I have can swirl it if you look at it under the correct lighting. Waxing will NOT prevent swirls, it may make it easier to clean, but it is not a "barrier" against swirls. It's sad that bmw has to use this new water based paint, as the previous models had black paint that was fairly hard and wouldn't swirl if you looked at it the wrong way like this one. I cant wait till my lease is up so I can get into a nice alpine white e92 or e46 coupe.

We are on water restrictions here so, if I'm going to wash the car I have to go to the car wash/ swirl installation machine. It pretty much kills the paint. After going through the whole swirl remover process two or three times since restrictions I've just decided I'm going to have to live with swirls for a while. I'm hoping we'll off the restrictions soon and then I'll put the time in to get the swirls out. |

I had never owned/leased a black car before I got the BMW, that being said I
wanted black and terra becuase of the combo. Black is very hard to keep clean, especially here in the NE with all teh sand and salt. JB will show orange peel and swirls.. but in my opinion nothing beats black on a BMW.

That's a lot. But I bet if you counted the amount of C or even E class cars you'd get into the 50s.
I don't notice E92s too much unless some kid tries to rev on me which happened a week ago on the 241. That was a fun road kill. |
