Top Gear...

I was watching it tonight and wondering what the censored bit was all about, thought at first it might be because someone in the background didn't want to be on it or had made a rude gesture.

Then I realise, it's because they had pipes....what's the world coming to? I'm in favour of the smoking ban, but this PC nonsense hacks me off, load of cobblers

Yeah I watched it too Scott,I was unsure of the censoring at first,I'd like to think the censoring was a joke aimed at the PC brigade.

Did you not hear that someone complained about them "smoking" in the studio?

The were apparently smoking a herbal substitute.

This was the problem:

Technically it was illegal - hence the complaints and censoring. I guess that the production team just forgot about the smoking ban.

What's the definition of 'smoking in a public place'?

Lighting a candle causes smoke.

So, holding a lighted candle could be deemed as, smoking in a public place - just as holding a lighted cigarette, etc. would be.

Maybe you will be commiting an offence by having a candle lit dinner in a public restaurant!!

“smoking” refers to smoking tobacco or anything which contains

tobacco, or smoking any other substance; and

(b)
smoking includes being in possession of lit tobacco or of anything lit

which contains tobacco, or being in possession of any other lit

substance in a form in which it could be smoked.

I think you are safe to light a candle - unless it contains tobacco

I actually think the smoking ban is a great idea. However, the people complaining about an obviously jokey item on Top Gear are idiots
