Evening all. I have a 330d LCI with zf 6hp26 auto box. I changed the fluid and sump/filter about 1 month ago with an aftermarket kit with meyle atf to the correct spec/BMW part number. I did this as per zf procedure whilst monitoring temp via inpa, then rest adaptations. It's been driving really nicely but when using the paddles over the last 2 days noticed a jolt from 4th to 5th when accelerating up hill. I purposely tested this again this evening and same thing along with transmission warning message whilst it locked itself in a gear!! Basically shat myself, switched on/off and all seems OK in D again now.
Any ideas?? I know I need to take a look for leaks and recheck fluid levels but really hope it's not up shit creek!?
Hoping the meyle atf isn't the cause as have heard of other successful changes with this?

U need to get the adaptions reset. A1bn in stevenage is yr guy

You can do a softer reset:
Key in ignition
Press start button (foot off the brake)
Then hold accelerator pedal down for 30 secs

Should see a noticeable difference

How much fluid did you manage to get back into the gearbox ?

I have done a lot of work on my car.
But when it comes to tranmission, I would have taken my car to old grey steve (if he is really old and got grey hairs )

About 5.5 litres Steve (actually expected it to take more). This was with car on a lift

Your too low re fluid for a start 6.2 to 6.7 litres these things should take so you need to start there for a start as you haven't allowed enough fluid so you need to effectively re visit this again, in a nut shell the cars scavenging for fluid and there isn't enough in there plus in the higher gears torque converters locked up and will demand maximum fluid delivery/pressure and 55.litres is too little.

Once done re set adaptations yet again(advise engine adaptation re set too as the engine gearbox contrary to popular belief talk to each other too)and then go through the re learn driving experience to see if this has helped.

If it hasn't then rather than DIY you'll need to get the car to some one like ourselves to see what is going on.

Approx 2 hrs labour plus cost of sump kit. Worth remembering some places do the change that's it and some like ourselves also re set the required adaptations as we've learnt this makes a big overal difference

Steve, I've revisited this today and cannot get any more fluid in (roughly 5.5 litres). I followed the zf procedure. Engine running, shifted through d,r,3rd no more fluid will go in at 35degrees.

I also got 5,5 litres in on the first drain. I flushed 3 times and after the 3rd time I reved the engine for about 30 seconds in order to fill the torque converter and then was able to pour another 1/2 liter in. I think 6 liters is maximum unless one drained the TC completely by removing it from the car.

Thanks whiteblue, seems this is about right quantity. My issue could be a valve body mechatronic solenoid after researching this. Only gives me an issue when in manual mode but still a problem as I like things to work correctly. I may have got slightly more fluid in so well reset adaptions and see what happens. Steve, where are you in the uk and what company( pm if not able to post).

You should be able to get a little more in that that when we do them as stated we get a good 6.2 litres in to them without drama.

Best advise I can give you is get it to someone who can look at the car to get some closure on the issue

I had the car on jack stands and the pan water-leveled. Don't know wether the pan is also level when the car stands on wheels or sits on a lifting ramp. If the car is 4" higher on the rear end there will be an additional1/2 liter going in (ZF advise for the 5hp18)

Keep in mind that the fluid level changes due to g-forces when accelerating or braking and while going uphill/downhill. So 1/2 liters more or less really shouldn't be an issue.

Actually after doing some measuring I may have got some more fluid in, so far as fyer this the boxvseems fine accelerating as before in manual mode between 4th to 5th but will test more to be certaun.
