dpf regeneration info

hi

excellent video clip here

well worth watching

must find out now if our bmw's have the additional diesel injector in the exhaust before the dpf ( good)or if they use the regular injectors on the exhaust stroke to force diesel into the dpf ( bad)

regards Katie.

also highlights the need for good oil, and regular (probably earlier than CBS would recommend) oil changes.

Yes it would probably the exhaust option I would guess.

Erg bypass seems a no brainier to do. How much does it usually cost to have this done?

Presumably the economy would improve and the engine life would improve dramatically too.

done a bit of searching, and yes our regeneration is enabled via releasing diesel into the dpf by injecting the diesel into the cylinders on the exhaust stroke, therefore heating the dpf to a high temp

so we have the risk of diesel contaminating the engine oil, particularly if we have interrupted regenerations on short journeys

good reason to have good oil and regular changes

I will not loose any sleep over it !

Exactly, and a big problem with many engine makers.

I've been in conversation with a local recovery guy who sorts these oil dilution issues. Worst case he had seen in a Vauxhall was draining twice the volume of oil from an engine, than the fill volume. That's 50% oil, 50% diesel.

Worst case scenarios, lubrication breaking down and mechanical parts failing, or an engine running out of control, fuelled on the diesel in the sump.
