Unhappy Unable to install my Wagner Performance Intercooler :(

Hey guys, today I went to my local BMW dealership, to ask them about installing the Wagner Performance intercooler and guess what? They said I should NOT put that or it'll automatically void my warranty

What are your thoughts about this? As far as I know, a better intercooler is good for the engine, I wasn't prepared to hear that I can't replace the OEM intercooler if it's not "BMW" branded.

Is Wagner BMW certified? Can I do something about this? Or should I wait 2 long years to install it... I'm really disappointed and mostly sad to be honest.

Find a dealer or more specifically an SA in your area that is mod friendly. Ask around on the regional sub forum. Get it installed elsewhere.

Thanks man, that was my first thought, but then again comes to my mind "you do it, you'll loose your warranty"

Google it. there is a ton of info about all this aftermarket stuff (downpipes, JB4, etc).

They can only void your warranty where they can prove the aftermarket inter cooler was the direct cause of the claimed warranty issue.

If a window motor breaks, they are legally bound to fix it under warranty even if you have an aftermarket inter cooler.

That's a great point man, makes a lot of sense, I will do my research.

Thank you again

Magnusson Moss Warranty Act
It's not totally bogus that dealers won't install an aftermarket inter-cooler., but the void warranty is off.

Just find a mod friendly dealer, there are plenty! When I was FBO with my 335 I had numerous things changed under warranty such as fuel pump, spark plugs, etc.

My thoughts are BMW's response is pretty typical and if you don't want them to flag your car do not take it in with the aftermarket parts.

What other mods do you have? What sort of tracking are you doing with your car? What makes you feel a better intercooler is needed? If your doing it for the sake of it being better for the engine then its not worth risking the warranty over. If your doing it for a track specific reason is another story.

That Magnusson Act might not apply in Guatemala, worth checking.

hahaha

It is a US law.

Op don't use a dealership to install the intercooler. There are no other performance shops in your area? Also it is a pretty easy install on this car, it's a front mount

Yes sure, there are so great tuning shops in my country, thing is that I don't want to loose my warranty and wanted to make a case with BMW Guatemala so they could accept this upgrade without voiding it 😢
