Lower Front Grill removal...

Ok, so I am at my next piece of work with my E90. I am in the process of replacing the plastic trim bar that runs across the lower grills on the front bumper. This is not the chrome kidney grills, but the silver painted trim bar that I will be picking up from my dealership tomorrow.

Here is my dilemma. I am trying to remove the plastic mesh pieces so that I can place in the new silver bar. Longtran is and has helped me try to figure out what to do, but I am having some difficulties.

I have posted a pic (a bad one at that) of what I am looking to take out. Has anybody had success with removing them? I would like to have this figured out tomorrow so I can just do it after work...

If you have removed it, I am looking for the places where it is clipped in. Any advice would be awesome!!!

Hi,Bavarian19
I am ordering the silver painted trim lower grill too.Should arrive next week.I want to ask again just to make sure,so for both the left and right plus the center grill, you just pull toward the front of the car?Any clip broken after you pull it out? I thought you have to undue some bolt from behind it or something. Please kindly explain to us in more detail please.
thank you for your help

Purity:

No bolts just snap on-snap off motion, similar to the chrome grill mod. Be warned, those suckers are slippery, had a hard time finding the right leverage/grip point...

Good luck with the install. Actually, they are very subtle, the silver is not too bright...

Purity: you're welcome, Private

Basically, just work from the inside out i.e. pull out from left to right...it easier that way. Pull with even force and don't twist about. The trims.clips are durable/flexible and won't break easily.

so how do you take it out again? Using the above photo, I just grap it from one end and pull it straight out with some muscle behind it? No need to remove bumper and get to it from behind bumper? I am thinking of removing them completely.

I thought about it, but the clip/mount holes would be visible and the whole lower bumper would look unfinished. Better to switch with a 325 owner if you want the black look...

There you go, from the Parts Number List in the DIY section.

330 Finisher Rods (Lower bumper trim)
FINISHER ROD, LEFT SCHWARZSILBER/ 51-11-7-134-093
FINISHER ROD, RIGHT SCHWARZSILBER/ 51-11-7-134-094
FINISHER ROD, CENTER SCHWARZSILBER/ 51-11-7-134-096

I paid about $60 for these....still not sure if they're really worth it.

So... the items above are the ones from the 330?
The ones on the 325 are black and these are silver. is that correct?

Thanks.
