325d dreaded dpf light

so I was out in the car yesterday and the dreaded DPF light came on after a few miles of driving. I have tried to give the car a good blast to re gen it but it isn't budging. when I turn the car off and fire it back up the light stays off but then comes back on after a few miles. the car has done 75k miles with good history ill be honest I knew I would have the problem at some point as everyone will do they don't last for ever.

im thinking about removing the dpf by taking it off cutting the box and removing everything inside welding it back up as I know its an mot fail now? (correct me if im wrong but I think its just a visual check to see if dpf is still there?)
I am also thinking at the same time blanking the egr (again any recommendations or advice if anyone has any)
I have had the car re mapped as well which I will get them to do again for me after

I have read it is a b*****d of a job
can anyone shed some light on any previous experience
any help would be great
Thanks
Ryan

This is super common right now. Every other thread is DPF related.

The bottom line is finding out what's causing the DPF to not regenerate.

For regeneration to even be attempted certain conditions have to be met. One common cause are glow plug faults. Have the vehicle diagnosed with some BMW spec diagnostic equipment before doing anything.

Yes, is the garage a BMW specialist?

If not I'd proceed with caution unless you know them well of course.

There are 2 DPF fault codes, only the later issues a check control dash warning meaning the DPF is heavily clogged. Even if that light goes out, I'd bet you still have the first fault code (partially blocked).

Any decent garage should in your situation;

1. Run diagnostics
2. Fix any faults which prevent DPF from regenerating e.g. Faulty glow plugs / glow plug controller, other sensor problems...
3. Add some DPF cleaner
4. Forced regen.

------

Out of interest using the hidden menu what is your coolant temperature when idle and driving around having warmed up? Regen won't take place if it's below 75 degrees C. This might indicate thermostat troubles.

What engine do you have? M or N57?

No worries. In that I'm sure they are more than qualified to deal with your pesky DPF. As you say, make sure you weigh up the pros and cons of DPF delete first
