What rpm are you doing @...

Hey guys

could you be specific on what rpm are you doing in 2nd gear (both manual and 8-speed) at 25mph (40kph)???

Just wondering how the different ratios between the 2 transmissions vary at this specific speed!

Thanks

+1

The little 116i 8 speed 1.5L turbo 4 cylinder I am driving around in right now cruises at just over 3k RPM when going ~108 mph. Was messing around a little on the autobahn yesterday

Close to the engine speed (just under 3k) of my 128i @ 80 mph.

75mph with the 6 speed manual in a 228i is 2750rpm.

If I remember correctly from this morning... 25 mph (on the speedo) is 2500 rpm in 2nd gear (on a M235i).

Not true. When I select Sport mode from the Comfort mode, the transmission (automatic) shifts down one gear and RPM goes up. Even when cruising down the highway.

I did a calculation for my auto @ 80mph some time back. There are calculators out there online that you can punch in the tranny's ratios and it'll spit out what RPM your engine will be at different speeds. See attached for an example

Gear ratios are locked, but I was wandering if throttle mapping in different modes affects RPM as it does with 8 speed auto.
I guess when I change from comfort to sport on mine it just downshifts and RPM goes up. Thanks for clarifying.

My 328i revs at 2,150 at 80mph in comfort.

The gear ratios are much more aggressive on the automatic. I have a f30 335xi 6mt but I imagine the ratios are the same. 3rd gear maxes at around 107 mph which is the same as my previous e90 335 6mt. From the above post, that's a big difference (80 mph vs 107). Adds up to why the auto is a quicker car.

80 mph in 6th is about 2,900 or 3,000 rpm and 25 mph in 2nd is 2,500 rpm in my current car.

Fair enough i think i misunderstood you. I believe the minimum shift RPM is different for sure in sport versus eco-pro in particular.

However there is a amount of people who don't know how gears work here...

Nah it was for my auto, so I had to skip a couple gears since there was only input fields for 6 vs my 8.
