Slight Clutch Judder

This will not be applicable to a lot of you however to those it might. Does any one suffer its only very first thing ie when cold.

Cheers

I have only covered 14k thinking of taking it in. How many miles have you covered.

Never had this on my Triumph Herald!

I know it's not an F30, but our E91 has been plagued with clutch judder since we bought it as an AUC from Lloyds Carlisle back in 2010, just before it turned 3.

It received a new revised release bearing assembly, clutch and flywheel under warranty at 24k miles.

Within 10k it was juddering again when pulling away in 1st. The car has now covered 95k, and still judders noticeably when cold on cold, damp mornings.

It's nowhere near as bad as before the clutch was replaced, but it's definitely been noticeable throughout our time with the car and dictates that i'd never have another manual, new generation BMW.

I've done 11K and it's only recently started. If you do take it in keep us informed.

I also have it, mainly when cold and most noticeable in reverse. I have read that it's due to the use of dual mass flywheels?

Mine has done it from new, now on 58k and not got any worse or better.

A friends also does it, and from reading on the 1 series forum it seems common over there too.

All of which is a bit depressing, as it leads me to think that BMW will come out with the usual "oh, they all do that, sir" rebuttal, and you'll then have a fight on your hands to get anything done.

I think every manual BMW I have had as a loan car has some clutch judder when cold for the first couple of junctions. Seems to be a 'characteristic' - the word that BMW technicians use when they don't want to do something about it. I expect they blame it on lack of asbestos...

Had the same issue in my E90. Had clutch replaced which improved it. Helped the decison to go for the sports auto when I got the F30 after driving manuals since the early 80s.

Sorry for the late contribution.

Yes, I had what you describe in my first F30 (a 320d sport manual). It did it right from brand new and I always thought it was odd.

I did wonder if it was something to do with anti-stall and/or a drive-off helper...
