M2 to debut at Detroit show???
Again more speculation and rumours doing the rounds, this time saying the car may be revealed early next year at the Detroit show.
This article also suggests less than 375hp and possibly a manual only option. I hope this is not the case as I wouldn't buy a manual one, if there is no DCT or ZF racing gearbox I'll be going for an M3/4 instead. http://m.leftlanenews.com/bmw-prepar...n-detroit.html |

BMW just does not do that as introduction has to be in proximity with overall market introduction.

But if not a production car as such, may we see an "M2 concept"??

I'm fine with manual only. That guess on starting price of 45000 bp though scares me. That's a 32% increase over the m235i which would equal about $56k in the US.

Me too mate, the last sightings were some time ago on September the 3rd, and nothing since
Going by the time of the M4 concept which was 11 months or so before the M4 dealer launch, then I believe there is a chance we may see something early next year in concept form, also from the way Scott said there won't be a "production" M2 unveiled in Detroit, with emphasis on the production word... I can't wait, I already have my M2 number plate waiting to go on |

I don't think this will replace the M235i (as some have said in another thread) as it was stated in the article, this is a M core model. The M235i doesn't qualify as that.
Something has to differentiate the M3/4 against the M2. Whether it's a 6MT only or no ceramics or maybe both. I don't think it needs either to sell successfully, or get me all mushy.

Normally I'd agree, but they did release the 1M with only a manual when the 135IS had a DCT, so it is possible.
I suppose at that point they expect only the hardcore enthusiasts to want to buy it and won't be able to charge enough for the car with the DCT to make it make sense over an M3. So I could see them leaving it 6MT only to keep some gap between it and the M4.

Hopefully BMW corp will monitor these proceedings.
Make manual or DCT [which I prefer] an option. If colors, equipment, and sound systems can be options, then so can the tranny. |

Either they go all out and make a beast and eliminate the M235i, or just make minor changes and keep the m235i...kind of a modded m235i

Separately, I think BMW will lose a lot of business if they don't offer DCT on the M2. But the article does suggest that we're not going to get very close at all to M4 performance, to protect the M4. |

AutoExpress - Detroit 2015 debut + manual only...
They got that info from AutoExpress:
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/2-s...red-hot-bmw-m2 Detroit 2015 debut + manual only sounds unlikely to me (but, of course, I ain't calling the shots). ---------------------------- Detroit debut likely for red-hot BMW M2 14 Oct, 2014 2:31pm | Jack Rix New 350bhp BMW M2 coupe on the way, set to be more hardcore than M3 and M4 The new M3 Saloon and M4 Coupe have morphed into more usable, everyday cars – so to keep more hardcore ‘M’ fans happy, BMW is cooking up a more extreme BMW M2. The new 2 Series Coupe-based model, shown here in our exclusive image and latest spy shots, is expected to debut early next year, and will pick up where the 1 Series M Coupe left off. Sitting above the M235i, the M2 will combine a race-car-for-the-road driving experience with more muscular proportions, flared wheelarches and a trademark M car bonnet bulge. Under the bonnet will be a development of the M235i’s 321bhp 3.0-litre single-turbo straight-six, but with power increased to more than 350bhp. “If you look at the M3 and M4, it’s not just about putting in the biggest engine with the biggest displacement and highest horsepower,” Carsten Priest, head of product development for M, explained. “It’s about the right balance between power and weight, so you have a car that’s quick enough for acceleration, but agile enough and with an additional edge.” BMW is being careful to ensure the M2 doesn’t step on the M4’s toes, too, hence the more aggressive character, while it’s clearly considering offering only a manual gearbox. “You don’t want to drag people down from an M3 or an M4. That wouldn't be sensible,” Priest told us. “If you remember the 1 Series M Coupe there’s always a bit of overlap, but we offered the manual gearbox only – that was one of the main differences.” A host of race-inspired chassis upgrades should transform the M2 into a purer, faster driving machine, on both road and track. Significantly stiffer fixed-rate dampers will replace the adaptive dampers from the M235i, saving weight and tightening up body control. There could also be carbon fibre- reinforced plastic panels to strip out yet more weight, and a proper mechanical limited-slip differential. Added Priest: “If you look at what the M235i stands for, it’s a lot of driving excitement and emotion for sure, but it doesn't go as far as an M core model. To qualify as an M core model, it would have to go quite a big step further.” According to Priest there “tends to be a year delay between the base model and the M car”, suggesting a debut at the Detroit Motor Show, exactly a year after the standard car was launched. Prices should start from around £45,000. ----------------------------

I'd love to see it launched in Detroit; I go every year and that's where I first saw the M235i up close and personal.
But Detroit (January) is too early. I'd put my money on an intro at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show.

"According to a new report from AutoExpress, the BMW M2 is likely to arrive at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. However, sources close to the matter have told Motor Authority that the M2 won't be at the Detroit Auto Show. When will it debut? That's still unknown to anyone outside BMW.The Frankfurt Motor Show 2015 will likely be organized from Sep 17 to 27, 2015. But maybe also at the Detroit Auto Show 2016.
