18" Winter Wheels from Tirerack

I don't know if this has been covered already so please minimize the flames. But after several conversations with Tirerack, they finally came up with an 18" winter set up that they guaranty fitment. They are Rial P-10 wheels - available in black or silver. I just bought them with Conti DWS high performance all seasons. Mounted, balanced, TPMS, delivered - $2k. 10mm narrower than stock tire size, which is better for winter anyway.

More detail please. What size wheels/tires are you getting and what are the offsets? Staggered setup?

Are these hub centric or requiring a centering ring?

My rial salerno 17x8 fit my e39 m5 great, but had a plastic hub centering ring on the inside of the wheel. Not a problem, but something that might be of consideration to some.

By the way, huge thanks for this and please post photos and reviews of the P10 once you see them in person. I may go this route, though with a square 18x9 setup if available with 255/40/18 performance winter tires.

I was not told of any additional hardware required for fitment. I did ask about spacers and there are none required. "Direct fitment/replacement for stock wheels".

Happy to share. BTW - Grant Edwards from Tirerack - extension 4735 is the MAN.

Awesome news! Would love to see some pics when you get a chance! What are the tire sizes? Did you get a square or staggered setup?

This is going to sound dumb, buy why doesn't anyone just use the factory 19inch rims with snows? Any major benefit to going to an 18inch

You ca do it and some people do. Many people prefer more sidewall in the winter. Also, common best practice is a square, non-staggered tire setup in winter which isn't a good fit on staggered width wheels.

One problem is fitting winter tires that are no more than 245 or 255 on the 10" wide rear wheels.

Any pic of winters on the OEM 19" wheels, I can't remember seeing that yet.

Makes sense, I am just going to do OEM with the same OEM sized winter tires, tire rack has them in stock for the 19s, unsure of the 18s

By the way, when I said "People do it" I was talking about running OEM 19" wheels with snow tires in general - not just specifically limited to the F8x M3/M4.

My BMW dealer said if I wanted to use my 19 OEM, BMW is recommending 255-35 for all tires, even though the wheel size is different. Conti Winter Contacts...

Can anyone confirm that the P10 rial wheels will fit in either 18x8 or 18x9 in a square pattern? Tirerack is saying no but they actually have not yet confirmed fitment one way or another, they are just guaranteeing fitment in a staggered setup.

I ordered the 19 Pirelli Winter Sottozero Serie II 270 exact size of the summer tires for my winter set up with my stock wheels. Work from home so I am not worried about driving in a blizzard much lol

I just talked to Tire Rack about the Rial P10 wheels, they said I can run 18 x 8" square set up with a 30 offset. Tire would be a Blizzak WS80 245/40 18.

I got the same recommendation from Tire Rack as well. I am waiting until this setup (Square Setup) becomes official in their web site.

245/40/18, huh?

Argh, if you can get in an 18x8.5 or 18x9 wheel in a square setup you can run 255/40/18 and can get LM32's, the new replacement for LM60's which should be superior in the dry and a very solid tire.

I just chatted with Tirerack, and they did say 18x9 square setup would work with a 40 offset. It's not on the website, but is available to order and ready to ship in a week for those interested.

Tire Rack web site has been updated with 18” winter wheel package, however their preferred package uses Rial Quinto (18X8 Offset 35mm) rather than Rial P10 (18x8). Rial P10 is still available if you select Build your Own Package option.

Interestingly, BBS SR (18x8 Offset 32mm) has been added to the list, I like this one better than Rial wheel.

From look of it, they all use Square Setup which is great for extending the life of the tire.
