What size winter tires did you have on your prior M, how they did perform?
Hi all,
I'm starting this thread to help get some context behind how I want to setup my vehicle. I'm looking for past experience, especially e90/e92 m3s, on what SIZE and type of winter tires people ran, in what conditions, and what their performance was in terms of both snow-ice, dry roads, wet roads, and modestly aggressive driving in cold weather dry roads. I'll share my own as an example: I had a 2001 e39 m5 running 235/45/17 continental contiwintercontact's (IIRC). I ran the car in mostly dry/wet conditions, a decent amount of slush, and a number of 2-4" snowy days. I found it to be under-tired for a 3,950 pound vehicle. They were simply overwhelmed too easily by the engine's torque and the vehicle's weight. They'd spin too easily or slip sideways too easily. In addition, they were too much of a snow tire for an area in which it was only dry or wet most of the time... However, they had absolutely no problem going up relatively steep setups in unplowed or packed snow. This time around, I want to aim for more of a "performance winter" tire and in either 245 or 255 wide, despite how much less the M3 weighs. So I'm looking to gain a better understanding into the right width tire and right tire for my driving needs.

I'm in DEEP snow area. Great Lakes lake effect snow.
E90 M3 255/35x19r 235/35x19f Blizzak LM-60 work fine but tires seemed too stretched and low profile. Rims looked like they stuck out past tire. Always worried a pothole would do me in. E39 M5 245/45x18 f&r Blizzak LM-60 worked great but looked puny. F80....... Haven't decided yet |

What width wheels were installed on the E90 M3? Deciding between 255 or 265 square mounted on 9 x 10 wheels on the F80 M3. Which width would you go with on M359 wheels? |
