60 minutes should do an episode on CBU
I just had my CBU done under warranty and BMW NA called me and I informed them of how I felt as a long time BMW owner. Pretty sad how these cars have a known flaw and no extended warranties have been offered. According to my SA, she said it would cost thousands to have it cleaned again. Correct me if I am wrong.

ah. good point.
All diesels suffer from carbon build up. The rate and how well the engine tolerates it differ. This isn't as bad as the HPFP problem with the N54. Should BMW warranty carbon build up for the N54/55/63/ etc? My opinion is that the M57 is too dirty to meet US emissions. BMW didn't fully grasp the impact of having to use a higher rate of EGR. They should do a story on the cost associated with emissions legislation. But they won't.
The reality is that all ICE cars are being designed today in such a way that the "externality" that is "emissions" must be borne as a cost by the individual. The engine acts as a giant filter and that shortens the usable life of the car. Over time, you will find that the cost of owning and running an electric car will be right in line with ICE cars. Because ICE cars are getting more expensive to own and maintain. This is part of an agenda that includes rising fuel costs. |

To me, 60 minutes defines yellow journalism. The landmark example is Audi 5000 unintended acceleration where every single entity, government or not, concluded it was driver error. 60 minutes stuck by their story implicating Audi. Audi lost millions and the regulatory climate in the US continued to get worse. Etc. etc. if you wish to follow the US trade deficit and dependence on foreign oil. Thankfully, we are getting a bit better, but it will take electric battery technology to have us finally catch up to the European efficiency in transport, if we can unclog our city roads somehow and free our courts to chase after real criminals instead of efforts at regulating the masses.
