Well, its about 350 miles, lets say you drive average speed of 60, that's 6 hours tops. There are not too much bendy mountain roads so you can maintain pretty good speed. Add one more hour from San Diego, it won't take you more than 7. Even 7 hour is pushing it. I did a lot of LA<-->San Mateo trips thats exactly 400 miles, and the trip takes no more than 5 and half hours with a couple of stops. Mapquest/yahoo/google probably are more conservative on their calculation.

Sounds good - so far though, mapquest has been pretty accurate. For example, they predict 8 hours from SD to Sacramento and that's what I've been getting...with 30 minutes deviation.
Speaking of bendy twisty mountain roads, on the way to Reno from Sacramento, I took Route 49 North from I-50 to I-80 in the pouring rain and all I can say is PURE MADNESS. Tons of twisties, slopes, and did I mention twisties? Too bad I was in a hooptie Civic scared of losing myself...probably would be a different story in a BMW. Route 49 was surprisingly hick, as well. The Post Office off the road was just a typical cowboy-movie shack. |
