The VO determines when your oil changes are supposed to happen.

Australian cars are set at 30k/24 months. That is just far too long imho.

So I coded it to 8KL which BMW recommends for post July 2013 cars anyway.

My first service was at 13.5k with the new 8KL. Before taking her in though I changed it back to original. I just coded FA and nothing else ie did not reset the ECUs.

So I was expecting the next indicated oil change to be in 30k when the dealer reset it. However, I was surprised that it was saying 13k. I checked the FA and they hadn't changed anything.

So the car determines the first service but then after that it seems like the dealer determines the next interval? Anyone able to confirm or have similar experience?

Mine said I had 800 mi left before service. I took it in last week and after they reset it or whatever it now says 3800mi. Its weird.

Wow, that's really weird. So that's 3800 miles in between oil changes?
