Desirability of a used 2015 model vs 2014 model in the future

With BMW making the 4 year, 50,000 mile maintenance program 'non-transferable' starting with 2015 models, will there be a noticeable impact on the used car value of the 2015 models compared to 2014 models?

http://www.bmwusa.com/ultimateservice

"For model year 2015 or later vehicles sold or leased by an authorized BMW center on or after July 1, 2014, BMW Maintenance Program coverage is provided for the exclusive benefit of the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a new vehicle, sales demonstrator vehicle, Aftersales Mobility Program (AMP) vehicle, or BMW Group company vehicle from an authorized BMW center in the United States (including Puerto Rico)."

I highly doubt it. Unless you are planning to sell the car within a year or two of purchase, the new owner would likely miss out on no more than one oil change or brake pad replacement.

Makes one wonder why they bothered. Stupid move.

They should have given up the brakes covered 4yrs/50000 miles like in Canada. I can understand this coverage being expensive.

You'll want the 2015 vs. the 2014 - the difference in value for the newer model year versus missing out on a year or so of maintenance (assuming you sold after 3 years) would clearly favor owning the 2015. People are conditioned to look at model year and mileage as the primary factors effecting value, followed closely by options of course. The maintenance program is a nicety.

Why would BMW do that?

Because they can and it'll save them millions and millions. From an ethical point of view it's sad that people are just looking for more ways to avoid responsability and get a higher profit even if loyal customers get screwed in the process.

The main benefit would be to people like me; who lease and then transfer out after a year or so. I can see my lease being more desirable than other leases because mine still has the transferable maintenance plan. Otherwise, like others said, it makes little to no difference
