would you bother fixing this scratch on bumper?
2 week old F30 msport and my little one accidently scratched my right side bumper with his stick. It's not a big scratch, but I was thinking about getting it fixed. But at some point, all cars new and old are going to have scratches whether you fix them or not. Am I crazy to have this scratch fixed?

In this case what we all say when someone crashes is really true, that will buff right out.

Try some glaze or wax. It won't buff it out, but it might fill it in enough to hide it.
I had some similar scratches on our X5's bumper and some Meguir's glaze would hide it for a few months until it wore off. Wax probably would've worked as well but I had the old bottle of glaze sitting right there on a shelf so that's what I used. |

Find a mobile bumper repair guy. I just had some scratches repaired by "Amazing Bumper" down here in Los Angeles. The repair (sanding, primer, paint) was done in my driveway and took a little over an hour. Cost was $200. Paint matches perfectly.

How about this: when negotiating a deal on a guided new car, ask the dealer to throw in a new front and rear bumper. They should be able to do that pretty cheap.
Keep the new ones in your garage, and when it comes to car selling time get the new ones fitted... Hey presto brand new looking car! |

From the picture it looks like it should be able to be buffed out.
If you cannot feel the scratch then you should be able to buff it out |

Go to www.drcolorchip.com, find your paint code, order the kit, and be done with it.

Having been a detailer when I was younger I would definitely be all over that scratch.
But then again I have all the professional tools ay my disposal and wouldnt be paying anything to fix it. It sure doesnt look that deep, but plastic is definitely deceptive. It likely wont all come out but a light buff with a wheel would really camouflage it good enough for me to forget about it.

Safest bet would be if you know someone with an orbital polisher to borrow it and start with a carnauba, or other thicker wax and non abrasive pad or terry cloth bonnet.
With enough pressure and the mechanical orbital motion it may get a good portion of it out. I wouldnt recommend using a spin buffer or anything more abrasive on it though unless you really know what youre doing - you dont want to run the risk of swirling, or worse, burning it. Plastic sucks.

It would bother me too much. I'd try to get it buffed out and if that didn't work, try and do a color match and polish.
I have a scratch from a finger nail behind the door handle on the driver side rear door that bugs me to no end every time I walk by it. I'll have to get it taken care of during the fall detailing.

Door handle areas are notorious for getting those light scratches. I never came across any that wouldnt come out with a simple hand wax. (and Ive had a few white cars, all of which show those damn fingernail scratches even more!)

A lot of us benz guys buy those chrome door handle covers (only the part that goes behind the handle) and color match them. This will prevent your SO from scratching your door with their nails/rings/etc... Whenever the cover starts looking like crap, remove and replace/refinish. Those covers are readily available for every make and model benz under the sun but it seems they are tougher to find for the F30... |

Try putting some brake fluid on a clean cloth then try to buff it out. I've taken deeper scratches out of many cars like that. No need to take it to a shop and pay for it. Trust me, I'm a chemical engineer and know my chemicals. What brake fluid does is that it takes some paint (vey small amount, not noticeable) from other areas and fill in the scratches. It will look like new again. I'm will ing to bet anything that you'll be surprised to see how well it works. This advice is for everyone who wants to try it as long as the scratch hasn't reached the bare metal, it will work
