Calgary BMW charging 600 dollars to change front mesh

So I had a minor accident and a piece of rock hit my front mesh and punched a hole through it. Went to the dealership and ordered the part. When they called me to let me know the part was in (I also had to take it in for a rust proof warranty recall) I asked them if they could also install the part, since it was an 80 dollar part after taxes and everything.
Then I got a call while my car was at the shop, telling me that it would cost me 600 dollars to replace the part. I was furious and told them that this is a rip off and I would not bring my vehicle to them again.

Later, the customer relations manager called saying that they would absorb some of the cost and I would have to pay 300 dollars. I said I would bring it back if I wished to still accept their offer.

On the weekend I decided to tackle the problem myself. After all how hard can it be to remove a bumper, I thought.

I ended up removing the bumper without any power tools. Just a hand held wrench and screw driver and that took me about 15-20 minutes (which was mostly trying to figure out which screws to remove and remember their locations for installing them back).

Did the whole job in 30 min which was removal of the bumper, installing the part and reinstalling the bumper. Then I realized that they were going to charge me 600 dollars for 30min work (at my speed).

I decided to write a very angry email to the manager which I received no replies. I dont care for any replies or apologies but now I know what bunch of thieves Calgary BMW are. Either that or their technicians are a bunch of incompetent people which still tells me that it is not a good idea to bring my car to them for service.

I never trust stealership services - the cost and quality of the work.

Glad you called their bluff.
