Sawdust smell from the Vents
Hey All,
From day one of getting my car on delivery I've noticed a smell that reminds me most of sawdust (like plywood, or OSB more so than fresh pine dust etc) that comes out of the vents. It's strong enough and "dry" enough that it makes it a little choking/hard to breathe (not sure if that makes sense - it's not noxious or all that strong of a smell, but can make a breathe catch/hitch. This happens for me with different smells as well). I did some messing around and it seems to be mostly when the air is being pulled in through the fresh intake and not through the re-circulation. It also seems like it MIGHT be worse when the AC is on, but I'm not convinced that it correlates to that yet. Anyone else have any sort of experience with this? I thought maybe it was a new car thing, but the CA said he hasn't ever heard of that. They are likely going to look at it next week. Thanks! Steve

Best guess is it's the cosmoline burning off, the good news is it slowly goes away (at 3k miles now I rarely smell it). The odor seems to be exasperated when you improve the vent flow by opening the sunroof. Opening a window seems to help by letting in more freash air. Gave me a headache for about a month!

This isn't a chemically smell thought. It's more of a musty dry type of smell, hence the sawdust. My guess/what I'm having them check is if the exterior air filter is contaminated or something.
