Dyno Day - Pt 2
Ian (Hotcoupe) and I returned to the scene of the crime today to stick the cars back on the rollers following the re-maps in our respective 335d's.
The results are plotted on the same graph - blue being today's shoot. At first glance the results are disappointing and certainly in pure HP terms do not really bear out the difference to the car post re-map. Perhaps the increase in torque is the most startling with peak torque increasing to 490 ft. lbs from 445. The torque levels did lead to a bit of instability in the rollers! Anyway - here it is. |

hmm, odd looking HP curve ?
did they get the Synchonisation right, ie. matching the engine speed to roller speed ? I'm just surprised the peak power has moved so far down the Rev range. It almost looks like you had wheelspin at 3700 rpm ? It's very peaky, what's the drive like, must be a little tougher to control now :O SJ |

Its still smooth.
The revs were calibrated twice. The torque curve spikes up as he had to feed the power in to stop it jumping out of the rig. Its entirely possible for a bit of wheelspin at 3700. I had the DTC light on putting my foot down at a ton on the M4 comming back! (kph obvoiusly ) |

Well yeah i was always suspect about the peak HP on those maps, but they might have recorded that on a dynojet or something, it's the Delta that's important, and for Torque it's there alright

The very same.
To be fair though the gearbox protocols appear to have changed which prevented the box being reset from the previous 'learned' settings. I personally doubt it would make much difference. The torque is right up there though and this is what makes the difference on the road. |

Torque increase is immediately apparent from those graphs.
And even the BHP takes a significant leap - look at the power at 3,200 rpms: Standard ~265 Updated ~290 Same old story - wether you like your power deivered frenetically (335i/M) or with a thundering velvet punch (335D). I personally prefer the later for my dailly hack. D.

I've not had it done guys. But I have to confess that I'm more than a little curious, based on this thread, to see what the actual figures are now!
