Noise From Engine After Turning Off Car

I noticed that there are sounds that come from under the hood (haven't pinpointed source exactly) after I shut my car off. It sounds like something is adjusting. They are short low-pitched sounds (sort of like a vibration or humming) of 1-2 seconds each every few minutes, and you probably wouldn't hear them unless you were right next to the car. It seems to last for at least 30-40 minutes after shutting the car off, and it happens even after very short drives.

Any ideas on what this is and whether it is normal? Thanks!

Totally normal. Lots of things can be going on. The electric water pump can run for a bit after shutdown if the engine is hot, the HVAC blower can run for a bit to blow off condensation from the evaporator. Sometimes the evap pump can run a check as part of the emission system. These days, BMW makes rolling computers, and they run lots of self checks and run different sequences at different times.
