So I finally decided to add a tune to my car. I visited Jarek at JR Auto Electronics out in Oakville at 1pm today with plans to install a tune and to add the Spider Boot (SB) as well. The SB is added to the DDE which basically bypasses the encryption and allows OBD access. In other words, your DDE is only ever removed once.

I already knew what to expect but Jarek brought me into the back to show me the process. This guy was a professional the whole time. He even took the time to update my DDE to the most current version. The whole process for tune plus SB took about 3 hours.

He took my car for a spin after the tune and then allowed me to do likewise. He also insisted for me to get back to him with any feedback, both good or bad.

All I have to say is the car is totally transformed after the tune. The power seems to be on tap whenever you need it. Took it on the highway to get home and the car just pulls and pulls. I also took another forum member here for a spin and he's calling Jarek for an appointment very soon.

Nothing but a positive experience and I have more plans to do future work at Jarek's shop.

I am not affiliated in any way with his shop.

Thanks Jarek!

Mega Speed out of Germany.

Nope, never used a JBD. My buddy has one and said there was no comparison.

He's getting the tune very soon.

If I send him my ecu and it is flashed and added spider, how do I reset my ecu through the OBD2, does it come with a hand held unit so I can change back to stock or does he need my car actually in Canada so he can flash it back...

You would need the hand held unit called "My Personal Flasher" (MPF) to do it yourself or to allow "permission" for him to do it remotely over the cloud server.

Follow the link below and then click on "Products>MPF>Spider Boot

I know of quite a few guys who stack the JBD on top of their tunes for a little bit extra power.

Should be fine. Ask Jarek.

Just wanted to point out something. In my OP I had mentioned that Jarek has removed the DDE on his X5d a total of 35-40. That was not the case as I misunderstood what he had told me.

What Jarek meant was that after installing the SB, he has since tuned and tweaked his DDE a total of 35-40 times. The SB has shown that it can handle and survive lots of testing and programming.

Good sign so far.
