the 428i is surprisingly brisk for a turbo-4 saloon

I just took an M-sport 428i out for a test drive on some winding roads and man I was really glad that I put a deposit down for this instead of an E class. BMW claims 0-60 in 5.8 s but I'm pretty sure it was quicker than that with the flappy paddle gearbox. And there's a good amount of torque on tap that it kicks you back into the seat when you put your foot down, even in 3rd.

Anyone feel the same way? I really really like this car.

Yes. I have been driving a E92 335i since 2007 and was very impressed with the N20 + 8AT in the 428i. Sure the 335 is a bit faster, but in real world driving where I hardly go above 75mph, the N20 has all the power and torque I need.

Yeah thats a quick car but without enough sensations...

i think it really needs a firmer suspension and a little chip boost to be perfect.

Was it an Xdrive? If so did it have DHP?

It wasn't an Xdrive. I'm not sure if it had DHP.

I think the 8 speed is a great transmission for this engine.

The transmission is fantastic. The flappy paddles were a little slow in changing gear but honestly its a 40k car I have to keep my expectations realistic.

I have a 6 speed and I although it's a good transmission, I don't think it meshes as well with the n20.

Next time you try one, put it in Sport or Sport+ (if equipped).
Should have better shifting.

What? When I change w/ the flaps, it changes like an F1, in a blink of an eye. It's the quickest shifting transmission I ever drove, minus Ferrari. Nothing comes closer.

I completely agree. I believe a car with 240-250 Hp and similar torque creates a very satisfying driving experience for the majority of people.

Power-wise, my 328 has been everything I could need nearly every moment of the 10 months I've had it. I can remember two times when I wished it was a 35, but not more than that. I will likely spend a bit more next time, but it'll be for options I didn't get (I want the HUD).

Saloon & Flappy Paddles in New Jersey. Might be a good plan to take a break from Top Gear.
