Is this accurate? 435xi GC faster than an S550?

Can someone explain to me if this is possible in the real world,...
or is something wrong?

Per BMWUSA > 435Xi GC zero to sixty 4.7
Per MBUSA > S550 zero to sixty 4.8

Is this all due to weight and drag coefficient? Also, there is no separate performance spec for the S550 4matic...I'm assuming that that version would be faster?

This just shows how meaningless the 0-60 MPH statistic is. Anything with short gears, the ability to brake-torque, and enough traction will have a quick 0-60 MPH. Notice how I said nothing about power?

I have an S550. It's significantly faster than my 435i.

Tests prove that the 335i is after to 60 at 4.6 vs 4.7 and tied at the quarter both at 13.3s but the s550 is trapping 4 mph higher

However the guy in the s550 couldn't give a rats ass about the 435i, the s550 won this race before he started the car at his home

Here is a test of the rwd s550, the one I posted earlier is for a 4matic. Here we see the 335i is much quicker at 4.6 vs 4.9 through the quarter at 13.3 vs 13.4 However the s550 is trapping 3 mph higher.

So these two are possibly tied as long as speeds are not in the triple digits.

However this is not necessary given the different target audience of these two. Interesting comparison all the same

Well in this case the thread did ask the question, is the 435xi GC faster than an S550. Quicker yes, faster yes but most likely before you hit the triple digits.

Its a weakness, I can never resist the temptation of these types of comparisons

Ha-ha ....
thanks for the input; 'real world' is what I was looking for.
I've been in a new S550 4matic from zero to 60 and it sure does feel like I'm in an S63....though I haven't driven an F30 335 since 2/12 and I didn't punch it anyway. But 'significantly faster'...are you saying a 435 xi couldn't even keep up?

Thanks for that road test....couldn't find one on the 4matic anywhere. Supposedly a 435 is a tick faster than a 335, so I'd have to assume a very decent neck and neck tie isn't out of the question?

I have been in m5s, m6s 760li etc and I know what you mean by the cars give you a sensation of speed not equaled by the 3er.

The 4er is no faster than a 3er or vice versa, don't believe the hype on the BMW websites.

If you are to believe the tests I would have to repeat that the N55 equipped F3xs can keep pace with the S550 below 100mph, beyond that I would just let the S550 go, lol.

Maybe jus get a Porsche 918 and call it a day

Keeping pace is really all I was thinking about.
Didn't want to envision being left in the dust, but also wouldn't dream of racing @ over 100 mph...
...at least not in New Jersey (LOL).

No Porsches for me....thx.

Here's the question you really need to think about: why would it matter?

sure....lets say for arguments sake the S550 IS faster than the 435.

you're also comparing apples to oranges......considering the weight of the S-Class...thats pretty darn impressive that its faster than the 435

also....if you're buying an S-Class.....you're more than likely buying it for the luxury and not the speed
