Advice on 2014 335i M Sport
Hi all,
I own a 2011 e90 335i sedan (performance edition) m sport. I just test drove a 2014 black m sport after getting the "we want your car" email from the dealer. That said the car is very nice and has many upgraded features (eg. new nav version, HID, etc). For those who made the switch, how happy are you? How well do you like the F30 over the E90? The one I'm looking at has the blacked out grille, tech package, cold weather, m sport, comfort and harman karden. And thoughts are appreciated!

I have an e90 right now and whenever my e82 was in service they would give me the m package f30 loaner. Honestly, I'd much rather keep the e90. In my opinion, better on gas, better quality inside the car, handles much better than the f30. But the f30 looks are a little better. But I, myself, would keep the e90.

I had a 2009 335i M Sport that I absolutely loved, but I much prefer the F30. The new tech is awesome, and I really like the HUD with built in Nav. Overall driving feel to me is better. When driving in sport the turns are crisp and the shifting speed is amazing.

It's just awkwardly placed, you know? It just kind of looks like they built the car and were like, "Oh s**t, we forgot the iDrive screen." Then they plopped it on top of the dash and was like, "Perfect." |

The F30 on the other hand has the most tech in its segment and some auto mags have even said has one of the best interiors in class. You will never find one archived auto mag that says the same about the E9X. I have no complaints when I compare my F30 to my E70's interior

Yeah - let's just say it has really grown on me - i like the interior. The 2014's have the new idrive which is nice (4.2) along with the HD screen.
The M sport adds many niceties - for an XDRIVE I am not fond of the standard suspension, but for $1600 I can add the dinan suspension to it - which solves that issues. I would also use the stock m400 wheels as winter wheels and get some 19's for the summer. That said I think i'm gonna make th move - noting, lease vs. buy. I typically buy but swap out every three years anyway (e.g., 30 months in my current car . Sapphire black is really nice too!

Was it a 328i? They get 27 combined (I get 29), there must have been something wrong with your loaner if you were having to fill up that much.

The F30 is pretty nice - it fits us and our two grown (one 5'10", one 6'4") more comfortably than my car. It's also nice to have the iDrive - many more playthings than the BC stalk, and the backup camera/pdc is very nice to have. There is a bare bones look to the iDrive screen, which sort of follows the design theme of "don't try to disguise things, just show them off well" school of thought (there's an actual term for it but it escapes me at the moment). It's better than the E9x scheme IMHO. The 8-speed auto is fabulous, programming is better and keeps the little engine in the right spot always. It's hard to compare the ride (rwd/sport on E90 vs xDrive F30), but I like the F30 just fine. Steering is light like my E46 330xi, and my wife likes it fine. |

Looks great. I have an E90 and an F30 and overall the F30 is a much better package and an improvement. The E90 has the traditional BMW steering feel whereas there is absolutely no feel in the F30 and feels better built (my one has 86500 miles and feels nearly as solid as my F30 with 700 miles) but everything else the F30 is better.

At first, I did not like the look of the iDrive screen in the F30 either. The F10 has the screen integrated into the dash like most other cars with screens. This is what I am used to so when I saw the F30 the first time, I was surprised. Then I drove the car. What a difference the screen placement makes when you are driving the car. The screen is up where the I can glance at it without moving my eyes from the road. I don't think the screen placement was a cost-cutting move either. The 650 Gran Coupe, for example, has the same screen placement and they spared no expense on that interior. IMHO, BMW engineers are yet again a step ahead instead of a step behind. |

I have to say i REALLY loved my E90 - but this new F30 makes me forget - I really like it - the new 4.2 drive is very nice too!
