Have you ever seen this malfunction with the HVAC unit?

Yesterday we were on a BMW club driving tour of some 125 miles and about 3/4 the way through the drive the temperature change knobs stopped responding.

That is, either the driver or passenger could be turned but the numbers for the temp would not change. Tried on AUTO, then manual mode select, no change. The MAX AC worked ok in that it went to 60F and full fan. Tried turning the unit off and back on, same thing.

Everything else worked except temp selection. We arrived at our destination and shut the car off (ignition off then on) still no change. It wasn't until we came back to the car about an hour later after eating and restarted and it acted fine.

Ever seen this one?

I had something similar last week but rather than unable to change temp settings, I couldn't change the fan speed. The fan speed indicator would change but almost no air came from the vents. As in your case, Max AC worked fine. Worked as normal the next day.
