I think I was SPEED LIMITED last night

I was driving home last night (on a closed road with another professional driver in front of me) in a Cayman GTS.
After another professional driver moved out of the way, the Cayman took off. I hit overboost and was able to close the gap very quickly.
However, he was slowly start pulling away from me till 7th gear kicked in. At 145mph, we were side by side. But then, he was gone.

I wasn't really watching the gauges and I don't recall seeing anything on the Infotainment screen either.
But, it felt like I hit the speed limiter at 150mph or something. The Porsche isn't limited till 175mph.

So, my question to all of you is...

Have any of you hit your SPEED LIMIT yet? If so, what did your BMW do?
Did it display anything on the dash or on the Infotainment screen?
And, is there anything logged on the ECM - like with Launch Control?

Since I have the non-sport version my 328i is limited at 135. Nothing happens, whenever I hit 135 it just lays off you can feel it has more but it just stops going.

Cool

Awesome. I would think if you are tuned then the tune removes the speed limiter. If not tuned then that is a very good possibility.

Here is some information from Burger Motrosports.

BMW models with Sport Package are Electronically governed at 155 MPH
without Sport Package are electronically governed at 135 MPH

As you know, I pulled my JB4 a while back because it was
Now that I am speed limited again, I'm pretty sure I hit it at 155mph.

Nothing happened. The car was pulling fine - and then it wasn't.
Felt like I had lifted. So, I had to watch the Porsche pull away.

Only some sport package cars are limited to 155. It depends on the tires fitted from the factory. Most x-drive cars are only limited to 135 because of this. Both of my 328s were AWD and, despite having the sport package, limited to 135.

I ran on the limit for a while on the autobahn with mine, it is a very soft limiter, you just get to 155 and it just stops going faster, almost like it is drag limited, just sneaks up on 155 and goes no faster - no warning or anything, just stops accelerating (no longer a problem, speed limiter has been flashed out now!)

My Vishnu tune supposedly removes the electronic limiter, but I've not gone that fast in this car yet...

All my cars have this intermittent speed limiter kick in. Generally around 90-100 mph, then it forces me back to 70-75ish. It only happens when my wife is in the car...

Car is speed limited, but certain tuners will resolve that. Here's a link to the ones that do:

Try this tune instead.

Same thing happened in my 135i once it hit 155 it did exactly what you describe. Now that I have the BMS backend flash I had it to 160 to test out the delimiter claim. And it kept pulling. Then I had high cross winds and things got a little sketchy so I let off.

I believe the M-sport package cars like mine do not have a speed limiter, if you have a 335IS, I would expect the same?

m-sport / sport = same thing.

155 mph unless you have it de-limited

+1 to the smooth limiting. I've got 155 in my 535i a few times and each time I could feel the engine slowly cut the power right around the 155 mark. No lights, no sudden stopping, etc.
My speedo is actually off by ~5% so it was maxed out at 160mph when the speed limiter kicked in. I probably wouldn't have even noticed I hit the speed limiter if it weren't for my GPS stopping at 155.

That's odd. Normally BMW's are off ~5% the other direction and posit a faster speedo reading than what is correct.

All NA BMW's have a speed limiter. Sports package and m sport package is limited to 155, non sport is limited to 135. If you flash your ECU then you'll no longer have a speed limiter besides how big your balls are.

Thats how mine is. Hence the fact it said I was doing 160+ when I was really hitting the speed limiter at 155mph.

Is this the only reason you did the back end flash?

Hm... when I hit the limit, back when I had one, it was 135mph, and it would hit that on the speedo. My real speed was closer to 125.

Incidentally, the fastest I've gotten my 3 up to is 169mph.

I have a question to all that have hit the limit or have flashed it out and gone faster. Do you even know the speed rating of your tires?

I've hit the speed limiter a few times. With around e40. Felt like I hit a wall since my speed was still climbing so fast. No lights or warnings though.
