Auto boot cover

I've just bought a used 2011 F11 and have noticed the nearside D Pillar Lift lug has sheared off, which causes the auto boot cover to stay in the up position. Once the rear tailgate or rear hatch has been closed. Upon contacting BMW I understand the broken part is 1 item in an assembly (no. 51437232773), which is some £66 to replace. The actual sheared lug seems to be attached to 2 separate braided cables which control the up and down motion. I cannot see if this item will actually separate from the cables without being damaged, without removing the whole mechanism.Would anyone have any experience of this happening previously and possible be able to either help me find a replacement or even make a makeshift repair. As I ws wondering if I could drill into the base of the lug and fashion a replica lug.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pics of D Pillar lift

As promised, 2 pictures of the nearside damaged D Pillar lift with the snapped lug and another of what it should look like with trim in place (offside).

I'm contemplating drilling the bracket base and fashioning a lug from a piece of Trespa and resin together with a small rebar. Seems like a lot of hassle but I begrudge purchasing the whole assembly for a broken lug and it's bugging me! Was hoping to find a F11 in a local breakers but none as of yet.
